Docked Developer Tools – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1.10.829.3

@Steffie: Vivaldi has a calendar client in mind. You coulda knocked me over with a feather, but it's true.

I am of the same mind as you. I will play with Vivaldi mail if it's IMAP but need POP3 for a serious mail client.
-
@g_bartsch: Some time after initial release, M3 is fairly likely to adopt POP3 as an additional protocol.

I hope it bests Google calendar. Then I will switch.

@g_bartsch Whilst my Tower has bucketloads [metric, natch] of RAM, so this isn't a memory issue for me, i really would relish being able to run just V on my desktop, not V + TB [email & calendar] + Task Coach [task manager] + CherryTree [notes client]. Back before 2014 when still captive to Redmond, i only needed V + Office 2010 Pro [despite my OS dislikes of MS, their Outlook is a superb PIM]. It would be so elegant to be able to have V as my one ring to rule them all. Mind you, as a single point of failure, i'd want to know my data protection was paramount. Anyway, it's a tantalising day-dream for me, albeit my breath is definitely not being held.

This has been the longest we've gone without a new snapshot. Any ideas when the next will come out?
-
@Steffie I have a feeling that in time Vivaldi will over deliver. Time - and staffing - being the important factor.
-
@rhstogus: Actually, no. In the past, we've gone much longer without a new snapshot. However, at the moment we have an important developer on family leave until October, a webdev who has gone back to school, a couple on spring vacation, and a number of the staff at the Collision conference in New Orleans. More snapshots will be forthcoming as everyone gets back in the saddle.

Hahaha. "JOINED 3 DAYS AGO" --> i'm afraid your perspective is highly inaccurate.

Hey, that wasn't there when i first read your reply

i am a heavy user of all PIM modules most especially including the Calendar, not solely the Mail module.
I know i'm setting myself up here for severe sarcasm, but... am i so very different in that need?
Not at all, I use Lighting Calendar too, I'm an "offline" type of guy, I like all my tools working without relying on an internet connection as much as possible.
For the time being I'd be willing to endure Checker Plus for my calendaring needs, along with Google Calendar it has basic offline support. If a calendar is indeed coming to Vivaldi that is indeed absolutely great news, I mean it would be a shame if that beautiful calendar in the History page would be put to waste by not using it elsewhere.
Otherwise I would strongly consider EssentialPim, it seems to have pretty strong organizational features and capabilities, works offline, is portable, plus t syncs to android. I'd rather not have to install/rely on another application, but I'd be willing to pay for that kind of functionality.

@Steffie: Sorry. Posted it and immediately edited it.

@whizzwr: They've both been duplicated to VB-17446, our own bug on that feature request, its confirmed but not in the pipeline just yet

It looks like I'll be in the "playing with" category as well - keeping Opera as the actual mail storage point until Vivaldi gets POP3 and becomes a real mail client...
-
@andre1828: I was testing it on my parents computer which is not that great. Now on my work laptop seems great
-
@Steffie Ah yes, it's a real shame it doesn't run under Linux natively, unfortunately. That would have made it perfect.
Have you tried it under wine? Maybe it runs acceptably, I don't know. There probably are better native alternatives anyway.
-
@duarte.framos Thanks. Had a look at their site, does seem ok, was going to try it in Wine til i noticed it's proprietary [not GNU] & commercial; i'm not interested in buying.
This one also looks decent [i mucked about with it in my Win10 VM many months ago, & was impressed enough to email them about a future Linux version; they said nope]. http://www.emclient.com/?lang=en . It also suffers from the similar non-GNU issue, but does have a free licence option [with reduced function scope].
No, i'm still not aware of a killer native Linux PIM. TB, Evolution, KMail - each has pluses, but also substantial negatives [based on extensive testing].

Could Windows touch screen support get a bit of a checkup?
Even with 1.9 stable Vivaldi will sometimes fail to respond to any touches.
Also, touching input areas on pages fail to bring up the on-screen keyboard. But long-presses on same areas bring up a right click menu relevant to such areas.
I would love to make Vivaldi my go to tablet browser, as it has the ability to scale the overall UI, making it much easier to bit buttons and tabs.
