Vivaldi Freezes after Opening New Tab
-
When I open a new tab and start typing in the address bar, the browser will freeze. When it first started on version 1.8.770.56 (32 bit), it would only freeze for about 5-15 seconds. I downloaded the new 1.9.818.22 (64 bit) snapshot today. Initially after the update, the problem was nonexistent or much less pronounced.
But after a few hours of use, the problem is unbearable. I have tried uninstalling, the 32- and 64-bit versions, and reverting back to the stable 1.8. Now it even happens as soon as I open the browser and start trying to type, too--not only when I open a new tab.
Here is a gif showing how everything works fine if I click on bookmarks or links, but it freezes when I start typing after opening a new tab. In the gif, you can tell when I start typing because the cursor in the address bar stops flashing.
I've searched the forums and couldn't find anyone else with this same issue. What should I do to resolve this?
I'm using a SurfaceBook, Windows 10 Pro version 1703.

Does uninstalling delete the profile on windows? Speak: did you lose bookmarks, history, etc.?
-
No, I didn't lose any of that stuff.

@luetage No, I didn't lose any of that stuff.

Then uninstalling can't help you. If the cause of your problems is a corrupted profile, deleting the application alone does nothing. Check your profile path in "about Vivaldi", close the browser and rename your profile from "Default" to something else (eg Default2). Upon restarting Vivaldi will create a fresh Default folder for you and you can check if the issue persists. Hopefully it won't.

@luetage It isn't happening anymore.
Can I transfer anything over from the old profile without worrying about it happening, or do I have to start over from the ground up?
-
@DieselBrick: To be safe, you should transfer back only the essentials (bookmarks, passwords) and otherwise install extensions one at a time, testing to make sure after each one that it didn't break something. In fact, test thoroughly even after having transferred in just bookmarks - because a malformed bookmark or a corrupted bookmarks file can mess you up, too.
-
@DieselBrick Yes, you can try and copy over various files/folders from your original default folder. As soon as it breaks, you will know what exactly was causing you problems.
Here is a help site which explains what the different files do --

For what it's worth, I narrowed it down to something in the Local App Settings\mpognobbkildjkofajifpdfhcoklimli folder.
