open downloaded file from download completion notification
-
When the download is complete, there is a notification message on the bottom right, I expected to open the downloaded file by clicking the message, but I was brought to the directory that contains this file. Is this (opening the directory instead of the file itself) intended? Anyone has any ideas? Thanks.
-
@zhangdl: Yes, that's what's intended. The file can be opened by double-clicking it in the download panel. In future, an "open" may also be added to the notifier.
-
@Ayespy Thanks for the answer. What's the motivation of opening the directory? I might be wrong, but I thought most of the times one want to open the file after downloading instead of opening the directory...
Yes, I can opening the file from download panel, but extra actions needed, namely first F4 to open the panel and then F4 again to close it...
I would vote for opening the file by default, and opening the directory as an option.
-
@zhangdl: Don't know why they did it that way. Perhaps because it's a new feature, and that was the easiest implementation for the moment.

Hello. Tapping the notification box now opens a page to the void. Is that the intended action or a placeholder for something that's coming later?
Edit:
Woops! I have windows not linux.
I have the latest version. -
@cong I suspect that Linux is the same. Clicking the notification box should open the folder where you saved the download, with the file selected.
-
This is really weird. Usually when I click on the notification box it send the browser to some page called chrome://extension/invalid. But now it opens the folder like it's suppose to. I don't know what's going on.

@Pesala said in open downloaded file from download completion notification:
I suspect that Linux is the same. Clicking the notification box .......
That's how it works on Linux.
-
It happened again. I clicked on the notification box and this is what opened.
The file I downloaded was .mp3. I don't know what this means.

You can report a bug. You will be given a number (VB-xxxxxx). Please post it here for our follow up.
-
I would also vote for opening the file by default.
-
@Ayespy I really prefer to open file directly from notification too, its annoying that folder opening ¬¬ I'm in Windows, but its the same
-
Is there an official feature request for this?
-
There is a good feature request - Downloads Button Popup
https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/24400/downloads-button-popupIts great because:
- it acts like a notification
- you can open a file
- you can open a file location
BTW how to disable the download completion notification?
-
@Stardust Go to
Settings/Downloads/Notify on Completed Downloads
. -
@hlehyaric thanks
-
It is very annoying that click on the notification opens the download folder. Please make it opening the file!
-
I disagree, it's fine the way it is. It's not safe to open files directly from the notification because a file can be a downloaded malware from somewhere, by mistake etc. So keep it like that!
