anyone experiencing twitter desktop notification problem?
-
Hello. Upon going to Twitter notification settings and clicking Turn On button I get this message: Looks like there was an error getting permissions from your browser. Make sure you've allowed notifications from Twitter.com (or refresh the page and try again)
I've deleted cache and cookies and still the desktop notifications are not working on the Twitter website but all works fine in Google Chrome. The web browser is not adding the twitter.com:443 entry to the privacy settings either. Nothing happens but error message.
The same thing happens in Facebook settings. Thanks

@IWillAlwaysTheNewOpera Thanks. I have let them know about it via bug report and via their Twitter feed. It seems to me that Vivaldi is not processing web notifications properly on sites and this issue is being overlooked.

I'm not sure whether it's actually a Vivaldi bug or if there's something wrong with the Twitter's script. But nonetheless, you can turn the notifications on manually in website actions:
-
@pafflick I have done that but the notifications are not working. I think it may be something to do with the site script as Facebook notifications seem to work fine. Hopefully the programmers can check and recheck to see if this minor but irritating glitch is fixed. Good day

@elektriknathan Hmm, I'm not using Twitter too often, but when I turn on notifications in settings, a notification in the browser appear, informing me that the notifications have been turned on. Are you sure you turned them on in Web Notifications settings after you've granted Twitter permission to show notifications? If so, could you please send me a PM @pafflick (just send anything) so that I could check whether they actually appear for me or not?
-
@pafflick yes. I was unable to turn them on in Twitter so I did the quick fix (clicking the padlock icon and turning them on) and I still do not recieve anything. I have tested this with both twitter accounts. I will send you a message in a few minutes (26/02/2017) so you could recieve a notification. If you do not, it is a glitch
-
@pafflick I wrote on your page and followed you, you should recieve a notification that says "This site updated itself in the background" (as is what happens in Chrome)
-
@elektriknathan I wish, I could help, but the damn Twittard keeps logging me off when I restart Vivaldi.
So, even if I received those notifications, there's no way of knowing whether they actually appeared for me or not.
Strange thing, as the notifications work for other sites, like eg. Facebook. I don't know whether it's something wrong with the Twitter's scripts, or Vivaldi, or both... You should probably report this issue anyway in the bug tracker. I'm sorry that I couldn't have been more helpful in that...
-
@pafflick it is fine, I have done that. Perhaps they already know. We shall see what happens. It's not too much of a big deal and I am sure they will fix it soon
-
@elektriknathan There is a new Snapshot in which the bug has been fixed.
[Regression] Twitter web notifications do not work (VB-26048)
Can you try that out and confirm whether it works for you?
Disclaimer: Don't update your current Vivaldi! Install new instance as "standalone", so that it doesn't interfere with your current installation. You can easily get rid of it later by removing the folder where it was installed.
