Avatar updating
-
I seem to managed to change my avatar from nothing to something, but the something is nowhere displayed (except on my Profile page). What am I doing wrong, or is it Vivaldi's fault?
-
@LakeInHolland: Are you sure you are saving the change using the button at the bottom of the "edit" window? I am not seeing a changed avatar at your profile.
-
@Ayespy That's very odd. I went to my profile page, clicked to change the avatar, it appeared to install the new avatar, and the new avatar is displayed at the top of the page where the green circle used to be. The address is shown as https://login.vivaldi.net/profile/avatar/LakeInHolland/csqGSrsrpErE91hb.jpeg. However, I see no button at the bottom of the edit window. I do, however, see a notice 'Successfully updated user account information'.
I shall now go back and check once again. I submit that if I am missing something that should be very obvious, there must be something about its location that renders it less obvious than it is supposed to be... -
@LakeInHolland: You have a new avatar now.
-
@Ayespy OK, so now it's been changed. This leaves the matter of why you have to change the avatar in two separate places. The first time, I clicked on the green circle placeholder at top right, in the V, Mail, Blog, Community, Forum bar. This opened a screen that allowed me to click on the file on my HDD which was then given some sort of encrypted name, after which the image appeared above my name - but only on that page. What is the point of that?
The only other comment I have now is that I'd have thought it would be a good idea to have the Save button a little higher on the page - but I can't remember which page it was on. (My memory has never been very good!)
Anyway, thanks for your help Ayespy - whether I can remember how to do it next time is another matter, but as long as I remember that I managed it, I shall know it can be done!
Oh yes, one more thing. It's a little disconcerting to have to click on icons (the three above the general settings page) w/o knowing what they will do. Could we have mouseover information? Or is that another setting that I have yet to discover? -
@Ayespy Yup! But your message prompts another question: why does your avatar have a black dot by it? I thought that indicated you were not online. Or have you disappeared again?
-
@LakeInHolland - Who the heck knows? The forum inner workings are mystery to us all.
-
@Ayespy Doubtless all will become clear, with patience and perseverance. (I thought it was odd that I was able to change the dot from black to green manually...) Thanks again. I'm off to bed, 1.2am (CET), early for me.
-
@LakeInHolland You can change your own status indicator (presumably if you want to indicate Away or Do Not Disturb - Offline if you want to hide )
-
@TbGbe OK, thanks for that TbGbe.

Hi, when you update your profile through the profile pages you'll have to logout the forums and login again to update your forum profile.
-
@isak I didn't know that you need to re-login in order to propagate the changes from our profiles on Vivaldi.net to our profiles on the forums. Otherwise, I would've noticed that some issue (it was a trifle, but it made me feel a bit uncomfortable) that I reported right after switching the forum platform to NodeBB has been fixed a long time ago...

@MoonDawg: I've removed discussion of reputation points as irrelevant to this topic, and canceled out several downvotes to get you back toward 0. It's pretty easy to get to 3 reputation points with a polite and respectful attitude, and a little bit of help toward other users. If you'd like to do that, then that will be up to you.
Thanks for your participation and your interest in Vivaldi. Hope you enjoy using the browser!
