Fixes for recent regressions - Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1.5.652.8
-
To avoid confusion, I think it's a good idea to start mentioning them as [Regression fix] or similar.
-
Is someone else getting a soft freeze for about 10 seconds after you don't use Vivaldi for a while? It's like it needs to "startup" itself again.
No issues with extensions or software AFAIK (I thought it was keepass but nope).Again, only happens after I haven't used Vivaldi for a while.

Great char, I loved using him
-
Can't confirm, I loaded up videos, seeked just fine. All my vivaldi flags are on default.
Any steps? -
I don't get that. I only get this type of freeze if I am reading in a news magazine which has media-heavy pages.

Dragging the active tab, via its address bar lhs icon, into the Bookmarks panel is still broken, as per now several SSs. After dragging, the new bookmark only has the http address, rather than the actual page name [like it used to have, some time ago]. I think i've seen others post about this too, but if so i don't know the Bug#.

If you haven't encountered it yet it probably doesn't affect you because it's been there since the chromium engine update for me. It might have to do with specific hardware configurations.
On mine it happens on a desktop with an Nvidia GTX 960 graphics card w/ hardware acceleration on (Win 10, Vivaldi 64bit).

Once I get home I'll update my gpu drivers and see how it goes. It doesn't seem to happen on my laptop while trying to reproduce the bug now but I think it did before. Strange.

Works for me on 2 different Win7 computers (home and work) with this snapshot.
Retried now and works as expected for me, thumbnails are updated. -
Nice find!

I'm still on stable version, so no idea if this has been changed already in the newer snapshots, but:
Would be nice, if the "back" button function worked in Speed Dial folders, cheers. -
I cannot get any links on e.g. vg.no to work. Front page loads ok, no links on that page will load. The page starts to load, but stays at 0. Clicking stop loading does not work. Only remedy is to kill the tab.
Edit: Got Profile error when restarting. Removed all files in .config/vivaldi-snapshot and problem on vg.no is solved.

Expanding on that, I would love it if it acted like Chrome and Firefox. When I take text from a page and drag it to the tab bar, it should open a NEW tab to search for that text.

Pinning tabs and unpinning tabs is bugged with those 2 latest updates. It froze my browser twice and had to end task. Good thing it saves all tabs in the bin =).

1. I'm really surprised that I can't edit saved bookmarks in the bookmarks bar that are inside of folders. Right clicking does nothing. I thought that would be a feature in a feature rich browser.
2. Renaming is somewhat broken. I can't remove the full text of a saved bookmark on the bookmarks bar. I can do it via the Bookmarks panel though.
3. Extension: Awesome screenshot tool, can't save image to desktop. Clicking save button nothing happens and when I take a screenshot, it also takes a screenshot of the "Awesome screenshot" UI. That also happens with other screenshot extensions so it must be Vivaldi and not the extension. There are other functions not working but those are most important. Can you guys fix that? It's important for my work.
4. Unread indicators don't work in Gmail and partially in Slack. I use Hangouts for work and I don't get any small circle to indicate that there's a new message. In Slack chat, I see a triangle but I don't see the red circle that I see in Chrome. I really would like that functional as I depend on that for work.

Right-click, search with, is just as easy to use.
-
I noticed that before. It is a nice feature! but still, drag and drop is helpful and is a habit of mine XD
-
You MUST do something about touch screens (Win 10 tablets)! As things are now, I use Vivaldi only with the keyboard attached!

This is most likely just your operating system managing its virtual memory space. If Vivaldi (or any application) becomes idle, parts of its memory space can get "paged out" to disk to free up physical memory (RAM) for use by another application/process. When Vivaldi becomes active again, it may seem to freeze while it's waiting for the OS to restore its "working set" back to physical memory, which may also first require paging out some of another process's physical memory. This explains Ayespy's situation as well since Vivaldi itself is a multi-process application where individual tabs can compete for memory.
Tools like Performance Monitor on Windows or Activity Monitor on OS X can be used to monitor RAM and virtual memory usage and to identify resource constraints on your system.
