Engine update - Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1.5.638.3
-
radiat-r, thank you for the screenshot you posted!
Now that I have an example of what kind of blurry text people have been talking about I can tell that there is nothing wrong with my system, I just need to find my glasses to fix the blurry text.
Someone once mentioned replacing the software for this site so every single edit doesn't echo to anyone that's Subscribed to the page. (sigh)
Here's a Screencap of my screen with Vivaldi open and showing radiat-r's blurry screencap:-
Now I'll go see what YouTube does with Vivaldi's new engine and go for a spin around the 'net; should be a barrel of laughs trying to find out if anything else besides the caret disappears from Vivaldi if I dare to look at another application. If anything turns up, or rather if anything does not turn up I'll file a bug report.
Windows 10 Pro x64 v1607 build 4393.321
AMD R9 390 8GB GDDR5 - Radeon Software v16.10.1, driver v21.19.151.3
Pentium D EE 3.73GHz 8GB ECC DDR2 -
Flash stopped working after updating to this build.

Very clear now that Vivaldi is for Windows, Linux and Mac OS is step-child. Too bad, I was liking Vivaldi but don't take kindly too being treated as a step-child
-
I don't believe that for a second. Missing a test release on a particular platform due to technical issues is nothing new. If anything, Vivaldi on the Mac has a far better track record in this regard than Linux or Windows; I can't remember the last time (if ever) that the Mac platform has been skipped.
By the way, FreeSMUG has not released a Chromium 54 build yet either. I haven't tried building the 54.0.2840.59 source tree on my own so I can't really comment or speculate on what issues may be at play.
-
I love you, man. I love that you added a context search that includes all user added search engines , and that you had the wherewithal to make it available in text fields as well.
-
Cool, thanks Wojciech! Good to see it's already on the list. Keep up the good work Vivaldi team \o/
-
What makes you say this? The reason we skipped Mac this time is twofold. Firstly, after the Chromium update many pages are displaying blank on Mac. This was not an issue on the other two platforms, so it is taking longer to get Mac into a working state. The changes to Chromium 54 also caused issues with how autoupdate works (i.e. it doesn't right now). We have several people on the team working on these two issues that only appeared on Mac and fully intend to fix them.
Our options were as follows.
-
Don't release any snapshot until Mac is working as well as Linux and Windows and miss out on valuable testing (e.g. the discovery of blurriness issues, which we have not seen internally). This would have further delayed the release of the new Vivaldi as we could not have started investigating and fixing the issues until we were made aware of them.
-
Release with Mac highly broken. Thus providing Mac snapshot users with an obviously very broken build which would never update to a new version.
-
Release without Mac and get as much feedback as possible from the other two platforms to help us move Vivaldi 1.5 along and get it stable as soon as possible.
I think it is quite clear that 3) was the only viable option.
I should also point out that the team is quite evenly divided in terms of who is on each platform, so it is not reasonable to believe that we care less about macOS. The reason it is not present this time is simply because the issues it faced are harder to fix.

In my case everything is very blurry with this version. It is totally unusable, both with the 32 and 64 bit versions (Win7, double screen (1920x1080 and 1920x1200).
I had to downgrade to version 1.5.633.16, which is a shame because I loved the "Search with…" feature

(Windows 10, 64 bit version)
Anybody else having issues playing media? None of the following will play for me:https://streamable.com/kecf
https://my.mixtape.moe/mvjpmo.mp4
https://soundcloud.com/hippiesabotage/drifterThey work just fine on the latest version of Chrome.
-
Had to find a not-updated computer. And it seems that even in earlier versions no system-aliasing was used for the UI - so: no Screenshot needed because it was my fault.
Sorry (btw: 'Send' now works in Vivaldi too) -
On opening a session of seven tabs in a new window, the scroll-wheel doesn't always work. It works in five of the tabs, but not in two of them.
Resaving the tab group as a new session of only six tabs did not solve the problem. Two (different) tabs still do not scroll with wheel (OK with the scrollbar thumb, but not with scrollbar up/down arrows).
32-bit Vivaldi on 64-bit Windows 10 Anniversary Edition
-
the logo position seems to change based on the window size, Opera 40.0 / Chrome handles it the same way Vivaldi does, so likely more of a chromium issue, but feel free to report a bug
-
Cursor is missing in web pages.
-
Please see the Known Issues in the blog post.
-
All three working fine on 32-bit Vivaldi on 64-bit windows 10.
-
NOT true for me. I can still play videos in my webpanels, temporarily close said panel to do something else, & it continues streaming just fine. The difference might be that i'm on Linux, or that my test stream was not YouTube.

When are you going to move on by adding touch-screen usability? The Win10 market for tablets is rising - I, myself, use one and have problems with Vivaldi being not mobile friendly!
-
All 3 worked fine for me; Linux x64 Deb.

Very odd bug in this new SS, which is otherwise pretty nice for me. Took me a few hours to pin this one down, by process of step-wise elimination, thence confirmed with new clean profile:
If i set UI Scale to <100% [my preferred is 75% or 80%], both Bookmarks & Notes panels become unusable, & so does V… attempting to scroll up or down in either, causes a veeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrry long lag to occur, during which V itself freezes. Resetting UI Scale to 100%, or choosing anything >100%, works perfectly well... but everything >90% is faaaaaaaaaaar too big for my tastes. I have not tested for this bug in anything other than the Linux x64 Deb build, so i cannot say if it's generic [but given nobody before me has posted of it, i suspect it's [i]maybe only Linux].

Keep up the great work guys. Almost ready to make Vivaldi my default now. Just wish it was a bit faster overall.
