Snapshot 1.5.618.8 - Drag tabs between windows and performance improvements
-
REGRESION: multimedia key (mute) works as decrease size of every page.
-
No problem on Win 10 x64 and Win 7 x64. Works fine for me.
-
I guess I never bothered to play with that setting too much until now. Now that I've been enlightened on internet privacy, my revelation piques my interest to this setting.
And I agree xyzzy, that Vivaldi should be more clear about the fact that my setting has been overridden with an extension, and could probably put in something in the settings informing me. Not urgent, but now that I know, it would be nice to have a prompt at some point.
Just a question if you guys know, in uBlock O, does the setting "Prevent WebRTC from leaking local IP addresses" do anything similar to Vivaldi's setting? It sounds similar in wording, so I was wondering, because I now have that setting turned on now that uBO has overridden my setting.
-
BUG: Can't add new bookmarks on my bookmark toolbar. New bookmarks added there won't show up.

The wording that uBlock0 uses is meant to be browser-agnostic. However, I think that uBlock0 and Vivaldi are both doing the same thing and in the same way. (Vivaldi, PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong.)
The WebRTC setting in uBlock0 (and Vivaldi) is also different in that it doesn't tweak a specific Chrome setting or flag, rather it changes policy using the chrome.privacy API.
https://developer.chrome.com/extensions/privacy
The Chrome world also has a problem in that you can have multiple extensions that tweak the same chrome.privacy properties and it's unclear which has precedence over another.
The bigger picture issue, however, is that WebRTC is supposed to be a privacy-enabling technology, and for this to truly be the case, we need privacy-friendly defaults that are consistent and interoperable across all implementations.
https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-rtcweb-ip-handling-01
Hopefully, this will be the case soon⦠or at least eventually.

Thanks for clarifying, xyzzy. I hope uBlock O does override the Chrome privacy properties, and that the WebRTC setting works. As long as it's doing the same thing as the Vivaldi's WebRTC setting, then I don't mind, as I can just use uBlock's.

No problem. However, are you REALLY that worried about leaking or revealing your IP address (or any details about your connection) to the other end of a WebRTC session? If so, I would be less concerned about this setting and more concerned about using a test version of a pretty-stable-but-still-somewhat-experimental-and-evolving web browser. (Absolutely no disrespect intended.)

<praise>
Great Work !!!

I recently switched from Mac (with Vivaldi) to Fedora. The first thing I did, after the customary updates, was installing Vivaldi. I was surprised to see that the screen was flickering intermittently when I scroll. Has anyone noticed anything similar?
</gripe><ps>
Thanks for the awesome browser.

No worries. I'm not super nutty about using this setting(yet, haha). I just wanted to make sure I had a functional setting, and that I didn't have to give away my IP address at times when it's unnecessary. As long as the uB O's version of the setting works fine, then fine. And I'm sure Vivaldi snapshots are fine too, I'll probably be on the snapshot build until I get all the features I want, or even just stay forever because it's not too much different from their stable builds.

Can confirm on windows 10 - 64 bit. Not consistent though.

Should be able to drag a tab to anywhere in the tab bar. Currently, it seems you have to drag it to the somewhere to the left of the new tab button. Not a big issue, but would be great.
-
I'm a Vivaldi "test pilot" as well! β¦ and the questions that you asked are all very good questions.
I just wanted to make sure I had a functional setting
Unfortunately, the only way to know for sure is to actually test it and re-test it from time to time. As Vivaldi evolves into its own thing and its Chromium underpinnings start to blur and fade away, one of the risks we face is that extensions (written for and tested against Chrome) may break in subtle ways, including those we count on to keep us safe online. As testers, we're flying an experimental airplane; potential extension breakage is something that we have to be mindful of at all times.

Every time there's a new update, my pin tabs are lost. Does this happens with anyone?

About the bookmarks/Speed-Dial
1. Unfortunately the SD does not hold all thumbnails - most of them turn to blank even after numerous updating, and it's 'official'.
2. The bookmarks bar coincides with the bookmarks i.e. there is no bookmarks bar sub-folder in the bookmarks, as the speed-dial sub-folder. Is that correct? Because you cannot remove a folder from the bookmarks bar without sending it to the trash can. If it's true, I cannot construct a bookmarks bar completely different from the bookmarks with only my most useful sites arranged as I want. Is it correct? -
Driving this version of Vivaldi on ChaletOS Linux (very lightweight) is so much "spiffier" than on Windows 10. Really a speedy and practically flawless experience!
Looking forward to bookmark + notes server sync.
-
I agree it would be a good feature
-
Did not happen to me. Neither on Linux nor on Win.

You may put whatever bookmarks you want in a folder and designate that folder as your bookmarks bar. It will be "completely different" from any other folder of bookmarks because its contents will be unique. Yes, if you delete from it, it will send the deleted bookmark to trash. You may put whatever bookmarks you want in a folder and designate that folder as your speed dial. Yes, if you delete from it, it will send the deleted bookmark to trash. That is the design of Vivaldi. All bookmarks are bookmarks. There are no special classes. That makes it infinitely flexible.
You CAN arrange the bookmark bar any way you like, independent of how they appear in your bookmark management tree. However, if you use the same folder as both bookmark bar and speed dial, the arrangement in the one will be reflected in the other. At the same time, you can "arrange by title" or whatever you wish in the bookmark panel, and the arrangement you have set manually in the bar or the speed dial should remain the same.
Some users show the trash can on the bookmark bar. That is a bug and should be corrected with the next snapshot release.

1. I hate the fact that I cannot middle click more than one item in a folder for bookmarks bar (the bookmark sub-folder closes it self when I do a middle click).
This is in the pipeline? β¦
2. Oh, by the way ... please add download speed in the download's panel! An advance browser like Vivaldi should have this from the first version!
Thank you.
