Snapshot 1.2.490.3 - Clearer download progress
-
Well, middle clicking doesn't always work even on individual sites in fullscreen for some reason now⦠So buggy...
-
Doing good at getting things done, but there are some requests/ideas.
1. Download speed on Downloads panel. To make room you can do a 9/9 MB for progress to save space. I think most people understand the concept.
2. Allow multiple rows of tabs, would be a great feature for when you have many tabs. Possibly even make it so you can sort your tabs by placing them in separate rows.
3. PLEASE bring back 5% interval zoom, or do it by steps, such as 110%, 125%, 150%, 175%, etc. -
well somebody please just fix x-marks thanks

Certainly, I can find 'workarounds' for almost any browser issue, as can most users. But the point is that a bookmarks bar exists for speedy single-click access of websites without having the resource load of multiple open tabs. Some of the members of my bar are indeed folders, but the vast bulk are specific websites that have the same icon (eg: contiguous NOAA weather radar sites used for very rapid access of storm tracking and graphical rotational data across radar coverage boundaries). It is easy to simply give each of these a very short textual label (eg: inN, inC, inS, etc) that allows fast single-click access of specific sites on the bar, and there are typically 50-52 such textual bookmarks on my bar at any given time. By altering the folder used for the bookmarks bar, an entirely different array of bookmarks can rapidly be placed on the screen. But the structure and single-click access all falls apart if each bar member is essentially doubled in size by forcing an icon into each and shoving half of them into overflow.
My main point, though, is that a stable version should not exhibit such obvious regressions from an earlier stable version. To do so seems to belie the entire purpose of having stable versions in the first place. As it is right now, I'm unable to conveniently use Snapshots for critical browsing because of the bar problems and have to revert to the stable 1.1 version at such times to avoid the issue. To import the problem into the next stable version seems like running everything in reverse.

BUG: When cycling through tabs on the tab bar with keyboard shortcuts, it doesn't cycle left and right on the tab bar in display order anymore. Now, it just cycles to a totally random tab on the tab bar. This used to be a problem, then it didn't happen for many snapshots, and now it's a problem again.

Should be fixed now. There are still some CDN trouble now and then, and it's one of them
-
It will be implemented, give it a bit of time
(I'm pressing for it too )
If you want to keep an eye for it, it's VB-17931 -
Good point. I agree with that ! :!:

BUG  : Only such a small cosmetic flaw. In the bookmarks panel. When you click on the arrow (next folder) or directly by clicking on the folder is not facing arrow, and the folder is not displayed as open. Change the arrow icon or folder to take effect when the marked another folder. If you do not know what I mean so much to work on classic view bookmarks next to the Speed Dial, on the Start page. And this is same on notes in panel
Sorry for my English  -
I definitely agree that Vivaldi should try to get more stable and remove a bunch of irritable bugs that are still floating around. Although right now, their strategy is to build as many features as possible first, so they can get all the power users first, like the Old Opera users, who need a home and even that will be enough to make them able to live off of.
They will then focus a lot on tons of polishing once they've gotten all of their needed features, since it'll be easier then. But I agree with polishing it a lot now because Old Opera was fast, light, and very stable.
Also, for 2.0, they are focusing on releasing Mail and Sync, and they have a small team for everything else. So they have a bit of a strategy they're following, while seeing how it goes as they go along. So whether by then Vivaldi will be more and more independent of Chromium code base and be able to use it's web technologies like Node.js/node-webkit/NW.js, React.js, and so on, and strip Chromium to mostly the rendering part of it, that may be seen a little later than 2.0, I'm guessing, but I hope I'm wrong.
I just wish we could get a little acknowledgement of these development issues and ideas from the team on their web technologies and Chromium so we know what to expect.

Not only that, but Vivaldi must follow the Chromium calendar of release, because there are security fixes in each release. So, Vivaldi 1.2 will be released at the same time as the next Chromium (roughly). This doesn't allow the same varnish it would have if the calendar was open for Vivaldi.
But each version will be better, there will be less and less bugs, and it will be more and more stable. It's just a work in progress -
Opera 12 had a pop up saying "Download is complete". They could just implement that again!
Also, I miss the dedicated page for downloads. I know some find the new sidebar to be more appropriate, but I could manage my downloads much easier on its own dedicated tab.

Bookmark and folder deleting here is routine and trouble-free. Something wrong in your profile, or an extension, or one of the CSS modifications you have been making?
-
Yeah, sometimes these behaviors fluctuate between users, so I can really understand you how feel, from one SS tester to another. Changes all the time. Can't wait to see when Vivaldi will be much stabler at version 2.0.
-
It could be it. If I repair my profile per Sajadi's instructions, then it'll be okay, but then I'll download my regular extensions: uBlock Origin, Font Rendering Enhancer, and Hover Zoom+, and eventually it'll stop working. I also have a bunch of CSS modifications, but how do I check if that's causing a problem?
Edit: Okay, I did everything from creating a new profile with no extensions, taking out all of my CSS, and no dice. The problem was still there no matter what I do, and I don't know what to do because I'm one of the few people with the issue. I heard of maybe 1-2 other people with this problem. At this point, should I uninstall and then reinstall Vivaldi?

I have each of the options in Quick Commands Settings checked:
*Open Pages in New Tab
*Open Bookmarks on Nickname MatchHowever, when a bookmark is opened via F2 (Quick Command) via Nickname Match, a new tab is NOT opened. It simply reuses the current tab. This is a regression from earlier snapshots.
-
I have to go to the Bookmarks section of Settings and select the option "Open Bookmarks in New Tab" to make this work.

The fact that the icons are displayed when they should not be has nothing to do with stability. If the browser crashes under some circumstances, then it is unstable.
This is a minor issue about usability. The fact that it's a regression should make it easy to fix, but that does not necessarily follow. Fixing one bug, e.g. middle-click on bookmark folders, might have caused the regression.
Whatever caused it, the point is that it's just another bug, and its priority depends on:
1. How severe the effect is
2. How many users it affects
3. Is there a simple workaround or not? This particular bug does not have a severe effect, it does not affect all users, and there is a simple workaround, so it's a minor bug. It's more than a trivial cosmetic issue, but it's not a major bug that should be given priority over 1001 other bugs that need fixing, and definitely not a critical bug that should delay the release of the Stable version until it can be fixed.

BUG:
1. Open the bookmarks panel
2. Open one of the bottom folders so that a scroll bar appears
3. Scroll down to the bottom and select a bookmark
4. Right-click on the bookmark to copy its properties (or whatever)The context menu appears, but the bookmarks scroll back to the top, hiding the selected bookmark.
