I'm afraid i can't use vivaldi till now because the developer tools can't be docked to the right inside the browser
when will this option appear inside vivaldi ?!! -
So, if you are able to change submitted bugs as feature requests after the fact, would it help you lot if when I submitted a feature request using the bug tracker, I labelled it as such?
-
Interesting solution. I've never had this problem in a serious way but I do remember things going wrong once and ever since then I've just automatically forwarded all my emails to a separate gmail account.
I agree though, I'm in no hurry for a rushed client. I've grown used to webmail since the divorce with Opera, but one feature I really liked was the ability to [spam my friends' inboxes] send the current page URL by email just with a keyboard shortcut, and also ctrl+enter for sending mail :D.
-
Is it theoretically possible to build in handling of webmail? I mean things like 'send link by email'. Before windows 10, and before Vivaldi, I used a small programme which made gmail/webmail the default somehow and therefore made it possible to make keyboard shortcuts for sending the URL, or simply opening a compose window in webmail. I don't think there's a programme which works on W10 now.
-
Hard to say. The option can't simply be turned on. It has to be written from scratch.
-
I found a bug. I have two monitors and Vivaldi has a line going down the side of my second monitor while Vivaldi is opened up on the first.
-
Was it a bug?! Really?! That's a great surprise. Let there be many more bugs like this one then…
-
Hmm, in the last few snapshots, Vivaldi hangs 5-30 seconds before finishing the page load. Happens on 40-50% of the pages.
Win7x32 Vx32
EDIT: Example, always happens on this page:

That's on my wishlist as well, although it isn't as bad as "I can't use Vivaldi" for me.
-
Confirmed. W10 64bit.
-
This was my favourite 'feature' of Vivaldi alpha. I couldn't see it in the changelog either.
-
Any idea how popular? I wondered if I was the only one nagging about it
-
Yeah I'm never really sure what's going to happen, even though I've chosen the settings. If I liked the tab cycler then I wouldn't really care, but as it is I have to use the tab bar to find tabs.
-
Extensions can be password managers, among other things you'd want kept secure, so I think it makes a lot of sense.
-
Feature request: user profile back up, and/or full user profile import. When I try to import my settings into my standalone instance of Vivaldi, as a means of backing it up, it doesn't copy all settings (mouse gestures, keyboard shortcuts, speed dial etc.).
Am I backing up wrong? What's a better way that people are backing up? I want to refresh my install, which hasn't changed since the beta…without going through the faff at the filesystem level.
-
There is currently NO PROVISION within the program itself to back up and restore a user profile. And if there were, you would lose at least some of the benefit of a new clean install, because 99.99% of the time, any corruption or bad file problems are in the old profile - not in the application.
Be aware that if your system detects a re-install of Vivaldi as a "new" instance rather than an updated one, you will lose your passwords and extensions. The new install will not be able to read the old files. If, however, you rename the User Data / Default folder and move it from the user data folder, your browser will create a new one, pristine. Then you can move your bookmarks, login data, etc. back into the new folder replacing the pristine files, and you should be good. You should then re-install your extensions. There should essentially be no reason at any time to replace the Vivaldi/Application file but, if you feel you must, just re-name or remove it and run the Vivaldi installer. It should think it is "updating" your current install. If you do this, however, I can't guarantee your new instance will be able to read the password and extension files of the old instance.
I CAN guarantee you that if you uninstall Vivaldi, delete the application and user data folders (the only way for a complete clean) and then install Vivaldi again, it will ONLY be able to read any bookmarks, history and preference files you backed up. It will NOT be able to read passwords or extensions (at least mine couldn't when I tried it, but perhaps that was because I was forced to use elevated permissions to get the install to run).

Thanks for the in-depth response, Ayespy. I did as you suggested above earlier on, after I posted, copying back in folders and files which seemed to contain relevant data and settings. I didn't manage to restore the appearance settings, mouse gestures, and keyboard shortcuts for some reason.
What files are most immune from becoming corrupt? I copied back in things like bookmarks, passwords and so on, and it seems fine so far. I didn't methodically make a note of all the stuff I copied back in but I backed up the User Profile folder so I can do it again if necessary.
I deleted the 'application' folder and watched it re-spawn before reading your reply. Passwords seem still to work, luckily.
Regarding Vivaldi getting confused about which instance it's updating, I have had conflicts with my standalone installation, whereby it got confused and ran my main install when I executed the shortcut for the standalone. Weird, and not sure what happened.

See my reply below (clicked the wrong reply button).
If the perpetuation of corrupt files can't be avoided when having a direct copy of the files, perhaps this can only be solved when Vivaldi has syncing capabilities, and can therefore backup the settings in the cloud, with which to recompile the files and folders on command. Is that feasible?
-
A question. How can I enhance the number of pages that I can backward? After I browsed 30-40 pages, I cannot return to speeddial.
-
I'm just a user like you, and have learned most of what I know through trial and error, but in my experience, Bookmarks, Cookies, History and Icons have never given me any grief becoming corrupted. I managed to do a reinstall where I replaced my password file with the saved one, but now although password saving and inserting works perfectly, Vivaldi is of the stated opinion that I have no saved bookmarks. What? But any operational difficulties I ever ran into, but for one, I solved by renaming the "Default" folder, spawning a new one, and then moving bookmarks, etc. back. It takes me perhaps a minute, maybe two, to re-set all of my personal preferences in the interface and download my ONE (count 'em, one) extension, so I don't even try to back up and re-use configuration, preferences and extension files.
