Snapshot 1.1.443.3 - New tab options
-
I am very disappointed. I still can not efficiently use vivaldi and I am loosing my hope, that I ever can, and loosing my motivation to wait for such a simple common thing. I am very disappointed that after waiting for months it still is not possible to just have simply and deterministic the next tab (to the right) activated when closing a tab. I wrote several times about the reason behind and why it is important. Virtually every other browser has this very simple and perfect to handle tab focus behavior as an option implemented, often as default. Vivaldi seems not to be willing to provide this option, even after a long time and many people besides me asking for this. I was very enthusiastic, but with your seemingly forever compulsory jumping around tab focus, I have no use for Vivaldi.
I think the problem is mainly the way Vivaldi handles tab-focus order.
It is also one of the things that is throwing me off the most in comparison to the old Opera. In old Opera, you could switch between either focusing the last recently used tab upon closing the currently active tab OR (and this is what I am missing painfully) focusing the "next tab to the right".
I would VERY much appreciate if this functionality came to Vivaldi. Right now, in Vivaldi you can only have the "last previously active" or the "next related" tab. The next-related is already pretty close to the opera way, but no cigar (yet).
Dear Vivaldi devs: If you read this, PLEASE give us "activate next tab to the right" as an option for tab closing!
-
Yeah i said the same thing some previews ago. Between Chrome, Firefox and IE, Vivaldi is the slowest.
On the other hand, when it comes to options and customization, i like Vivaldi.better.
I hope they can improve the UI responsiveness.

ta ok ai?
-
Same here. The BBC site loaded okay for me, but it happens on other sites every once in a while.
-
I, too, would like this option, as it should be simple to provide, and be very useful to me.
-
No trouble here, though Vivaldi seemed to be in two minds as to whether to display them: they loaded and disappeared twice before finally staying put!
-
The reason why it doesn't work on this page (and some others with same principle) you actually described - the main article loads, than the page scrolls at the bottom and the browser thinks that the page is fully loaded but then it loads the comments section from database which may take a while. This is a dynamically created page and you can create a lot of dynamically created material. I'm just guessing that this is harder to code so the developers focused on other bugs instead. Scrolling on statically created pages works fine for me.
And for your main complain about Vivaldi - tabs not loading after start of Vivaldi I think what are you referring to is something called "Lazy tabs" - after you start Vivaldi with more than 1 tab opened from previous session, the tabs that have not been visited yet won't load. This has been added to Vivaldi to save computer resources while loading the browser and many people actually wants this but on the other hand a lot of people want an option to disable this feature in the settings. The on/off options has still not been added but has been suggested on the forum several times so we just have to wait if the developers add this option.
Sorry for mistakes, I'm not an English native speaker. Have a nice day.

Add the switch –incognito to the desktop shortcut.
or make this change in the register, then all links [incl. those in mails and newsfeeds] will be opened in a private window;
_Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\VivaldiHTM.HVRISEV6CP2SXMW37SNETXUF3U\shell\open\command]
@="F:\Vivaldi\Application\vivaldi.exe /incognito /disk-cache-dir="F:\Temp\WPDNSE\VivaldiTemp" – "%1""_one thing 2 remember…after every update you need to make the change again so I saved it in a reg-file

You're very welcome!

I really want pinned tab URL locking. I asked for this in Old Opera but it never came. FF has a good extension for tabs that had all sorts of good options. Hope Vivaldi gets more tab options.
-
Perhaps I should have mentioned this a few snapshots ago, but Vivaldi inconsistently loses my session upon initialization, requiring me to open the last window via trash can every time this happens. Pinned tabs are not lost, but all the other tabs are. This happens every now and then, but isn't 100% guaranteed to happen.
A similar thing happened to me just once the day before yesterday (on this particular snapshot). In my case, I lost all tabs including the pinned ones. I didn't check the trash bin.
Losing tabs used to happen quite often several months ago, but for this one or two months, it just happened only once. Mac OS 10.11.4.

1. Still missing that little extra lovely thing - a single shortcut to reload all tabs (like old Opera Ctrl+F5)
2.Something odd, bit hard to describe:
Scrolling up/down through Xenforo forums, using either mousewheel or keyboard arrows, the page "blanks out" to whitespace for a while (7-10 secs), until it seems to reload ok. I've seen this very occasionally on other non-Xenforo pages (e.g. BBC, Flickr)
I can switch to other tabs while this is happening, so it's not the whole browser hanging up.

Hopefully one day we'll have advanced mouse and keyboard shortcuts like we had in Opera, allowing for example to "Close Tab & Switch to Previous" or "Close Tab & Switch to Next"…
-
Same here, also with the Search Field. Quite often, and rather annoying.
-
Are there any plans for implementing the ability to drag a text snippet to the tab bar to open a search? It's a feature that chrome has that I use a lot, sorry for not explaining it better.
-
Actually I prefer it this way and I think most people do. When I close a tab I want to go back to what I was reading before it. Sometimes they are related.
It seems to me this should be handled as a new customization. I believe we will see a lot of them in the future and this will be one of them. The focus of Vivaldi is giving users UI options. Browsing is handled by the chromium project mostly. But this is not a priority and should not be in my view.
Breaking things are bugs like stealing focus. This is major and I'm astonished that someone gave thumbs up to the first major version with this bug! (I'm a dev myself and most clients/companies would see this bug as an unacceptable for release); and UX features that are missing like Sync, which is to be expected for a young software eager to go into the wild. This are things that should be top priorities right now.
-
Is there any direct way to sniff Vivaldi versions from an FTP? So i could make my script sniff and alert me of new versions (possibly from different streams, snapshot/stable/beta/whatnot)?
-
Mouse Gestures are a top priority for me. In Opera 12.17 I have one to show the Bookmarks Bar, then hide it after 5 seconds.
Set alignment, "personalbar inline", 6 & Delay, 5000 & Set alignment, "personalbar inline", 0
The ability to use | to make command conditional is also very powerful, e.g.
Open link in background page | Go to end | New page
-
When will be the next snapshot?
-
Think I spoke too soon…
Yeah, I think you did. Any word on when this is getting fixed? It's very annoying.
