Snapshot 1.0.403.15 - Session management and other important updates
-
Regarding your last paragraph, I was about to post that myself. There needs to be some way to more comfortably and directly access (at least: add, edit, remove) the session management.
Since Vivaldi doesn't have much usable tabs management over most Chromium forks yet (multi-row tabs, fixed-width tab headers, expandable tab grouping, etc as we knew it from Opera), a proper and easily accessible session management will finally make Vivaldi a real alternative for that small group of power-users that needs to use many tabs and switch between them.
My thanks to all the Vivaldi developers for the hard and innovative work they put into the creation of this browser. I've already been impressed and positively surprised a few times so far.
-
I can confirm the above post concerning clicking on the extension icon. It really should toggle between showing and not showing, IMO.
Running 32-bit Vivaldi on Windows 8.1 (64-bit).
-
These sessions are going to come in very handy. Two suggestions though: Offer the option to auto-close the current tabs and replace them with the saved ones when opening a session. And allowing session deletion.
-
Brought forward as these bugs are still present:
1 - If you open with the middle mouse button to a folder that contains more than 20 bookmarks will be open ONLY 20 bookmarks;
2 - If you open with the middle mouse button a folder that has a subfolder is also open bookmarks subfolder;
3 - If you open with the middle mouse button to a folder, the bookmarks do not open in the same order in which they appear in the folder, two versions is working properly. In "sorting by title" bookmark, you might have the ability to view folders first? Currently it is a bit confusing.
Thanks for the great work they make.

Two things that jump out at me on the new and recent features:
1- Sessions:
Tracking the name of the currently open session to allow an "Update current session" option would be amazing. That way one could have the open session "Holiday planning" open, load new tabs, close some tabs, etc, then hit Ctrl+Shift+S and update the session without having to type anything. Making the keyboard shortcut for "Update current session" configurable would appease many.2- Related tabs:
It would be nice to have a feature such that tabs opened from within a tab stack would be grouped within that stack. The "Related tabs" information would presumably be accessible to make this work, as you're evidently already tracking which tab is a parent/child of what.
A full blown hierarchical view of your tab set would be amazing, but depends on just how much parent/child information is attached to each opened tab. You'd only need left/right parent/child information I reckon, but it depends on whether that's available or not.3- Tab Stacks:
Please allow us to expand and contract tab stacks like in O12 - the current UI stops me from using them at all as there's simply no visibility of what's in a stack. (Left side tab bar, tab thumbnails disabled)4- Pinned tabs:
With my tabs on the left, I don't get any graphical indicator whether a tab is pinned or not. It'd be really nice to have some kind of indicator, be it an icon, or a thin coloured line on the side of the tab, or a corner marker, just anything at all to indicate the tab is pinned.
Also if you have a LOT of tabs open, forcing the list to scroll, it'd be nice to see pinned tabs held at the top of the list so they can always be seen.Absolutely loving the hibernate, great work guys, please keep it up!
-
I already turned on tab discarding in the flags options, but being able to manually hibernate tabs is such a nice feature. It's really important for me, because as a power user I like to open many tabs!
-
I don't know if it s a bug or a feature:
When I start Vivaldi, it seems that every background tabs are hibernating.
It's annoying because I have to visit all the tabs that I want to wake up (webmail, twitter…) -
I haven't even installed it yet but if session save WORKS how GREAT!!!!!
-
Is it? Vivaldi takes around 4-5 seconds for me to start while Chrome starts almost instantly.
This is with an SSD btw.
-
Is mouse gesture customisation (even in a jury-rigged file-editing way, like it basically was with old Opera) still planned for the final release or should I not get my hopes up? It's the main thing keeping me from switching.
-
Is this "VB-12739 Add "Right of current tab" in tab settings for a Close tab" only implemented for OSX or Linux? I'm on Windows 7 32bit and do not see this option.
Also, thanks for fixing VB-10608, i was almost going back to Firefox.
-
sessions? Hibernation tabs? I'm feeling spoiled now, lol
Don't know how many extension problems are still on your "to do" list but… I'm just having a problem with an extension named 'Nimbus Screenshot and Screencast'. It should take screenshots of the current page, but it's just doing nothing… Clicking on the button (in the toolbar) and then choosing for 'entire page' just make it jump to the bottom of the page but stops there (other options aren't working either)
-
It's not really hibernating, it's lazy loading, it's not new from this version, but I too hate it…
-
Settings->Tabs->New Tab Position.
-
Yes, there are issues with "captureVisibleTab" which means that no extension capturing screenshots will work.
-
Yes, we know that all screenshot extensions are not working as they should.
-
Still no fix for paste on middle click, I'm really tired of it and switching back to FF.
-
Main content on http://www.9news.com/votenow (the voting sections is failing to load), no extensions, also fails in Safari, & Opera 35
OS X 10.11.3

I agree. Startup is so fast that I didn't even start thinking about it till now. It must be that fast! It used to start a while before! And they're going to optimize that even further.
What I'm looking forward to optimization in the UI most is speed of opening and closing tabs. It's really behind Opera 35 in this, and also the panel speed.
Is it? Vivaldi takes around 4-5 seconds for me to start while Chrome starts almost instantly.
This is with an SSD btw.
How long did it take to start up before this snapshot?
-
Yes, and I'd also like fast forwards to be added to the mouse flip (hold left-click, then right-click).
