DevTools Word Wrap, and "Other tabs share a process..." notice
-
@hommealone Create a desktop shortcut to vivaldi.exe
At property Target add at end of command--disable-features=DevToolsSharedProcessInfobar
-
Easy for you to say, DoctorG, Windows user!
In MacOS, tasks launch from the taskbar icons, and a quick search has no answer to how to add a target property there. I'll keep looking though. Thanks.
How can I find more help on how to correct my more urgent DevTools word wrap problem?
Maybe I should post to the macOS sub-category after all?

Excuse me, i missed that you are a Maccian
In Windows and Linux i can edit the desktop shortcut and mime-type association.
But in Mac launcher i do not know.open -a "Vivaldi" --args -disable-features=disable-features=DevToolsSharedProcessInfobar

Thanks. If anyone else is interested in this obscure question about adding command line arguments to Mac taskbar icons, I think the answer is here:
And how do you add those nice blockquotes in this forum?
Can I post my word wrap question in the macOS desktop sub-category, or is that bad form - considered double posting? - or not helpful, at any rate?

Ask moderator to move the thread
Go to your first post, click the 3-dot-button menu at end of post #1, select "Flag this post", select "Other", type "Please move to …" , hit "Submit Report" and a mod will get the report. -
@hommealone Whoah, i read it; changing command line of an app is not as easy like in Linux or Windows.
-
Regarding blockquotes, perfect - thanks! I've bookmarked that page.
So what's the etiquette in this forum about posting a question, edited version, again in a subcategory?
Do you think I'd be better off searching for answers on a Chrome forum?

Usually you ask a moderator to move the thread by reporting a post or in chat.
The mod team is listed at https://forum.vivaldi.net/groups/global-moderators
You can contact them by chat. https://help.vivaldi.com/services/forum/private-chat-on-the-forum/ -

Regarding the text-wrap problem, I recommend you test these cases on your system: using a clean profile of Vivaldi (eg. install a Standalone copy somewhere, or temporarily rename the folder of your profile so a new profile is generated on the next browser start --backup if you're not confident); test on different Chromium-based browsers, preferably Chrome itself (or a build of pure Chromium).

Hi everyone,
since the last update I alwas get this annoying yellow info bar when I open the dev tools:
"Other tabs have the same process, which can cause the developer tools not to function as expected."It is very annoying since I have to click it away each and every time and because it blocks some button in the dev tool menu. I already tried "--disable-infobars" which didn't work.
EDIT: Nevermind, my post was moved here and --disable-features=DevToolsSharedProcessInfobar works! Thanks.
-
@Levrini - Sorry, I got sidetracked (life!) and am just getting back to this... Can you explain how to install a Standalone version of Vivladi on Mac OS X, or provide a link to an instructions document? Thanks.

@Levrini @hommealone
Hi, there is no standalone install on Linux, I guess it is the same on macOS.
We need another Apple user to help here. -
OK, I hope someone can suggest something. It's a serious problem, and I'd love to be able to resolve it.
While that's my main issue here, I'd also like to double back to the secondary, nuisance issue: The yellow info bar notice:
"Other tabs have the same process, which can cause the developer tools not to function as expected."Could that be the cause of the word wrap issue?
"...which can cause the developer tools not to function as expected."Regarding disabling the info bar notice, if I run this command in Terminal:
open /Applications/Vivaldi.app --args -disable-features=DevToolsSharedProcessInfobar
It does indeed hide that notification. But next time I open Vivaldi normally, the yellow bar comes back. Is there any way to permanently add that flag to Vivaldi?

@hommealone
Sorry, I don't use Mac... If the Mac installer can't install Standalone, Googling I found some old instructions from @Ruarí that may help: https://gist.github.com/ruario/0e4f90caa59a390c4a56@hommealone said in DevTools Word Wrap, and "Other tabs share a process..." notice:

When I was looking at it I also couldn't find a solution for this. Some "features" can only be disabled/enabled by command line parameters, others can be toggled in both chrome://flags and cmd-line.
-
@mib2berlin @Levrini
Well, I tried a similar troubleshooting method... I opened a "Guest Profile" window. Should that accomplish the same thing as a Standalone version, in other words, determine whether the word wrap problem is caused by some conflict in my profile?In the Guest Profile window, the "Word Wrap" setting in the DevTools settings is ignored too.
If that in fact means that I have ruled out a problem or conflict with something in my profile, what is my next troubleshooting step?

Yes, in vivaldi://flags I can't find DevToolsSharedProcessInfobar
And, I suppose, there is no way to attach the command to the Vivaldi Icon (like you can do on Windows) so that it always opens with that --args right?
-

Good idea using Guest Profile. There's a strong indication of a Vivaldi issue on your system. You may want to report the bug: https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/troubleshoot/reporting-a-bug-in-vivaldi/
If you want to narrow it down to confirme whether it is a Chromium or Vivaldi issue, you can try the same procedure with a Guest profile in Chrome (or another derived browser eg. Brave). -
So, this thread has been open for a while now with no solutions. If no one here can suggest further troubleshooting steps, should I:
-
Post these issues (separately) in the Desktop / Vivaldi for macOS forum sub-category? It would help to be able to find out if any other Mac users can duplicate the issues. -OR-
-
File a bug report (and if so, how do I do that?)
-
