I have the same problems since v6.7.x @ work. Although my Win11-workstation is behind a hardware firewall with an exclusion for "bifrost.vivaldi.com", sync worked. Not flawlessly, because often there were network connection errors, mostly with upload, but at times sync was successful. Last version of Vivaldi when sync was possible was the latest v6.6.x.

Now, with v6.7.x it hangs at "Initialising Sync...", when you disconnect and try to connect again. The strange thing is, when I uninstall v6.7, install v6.6 it works immediately and sync is successful. Then I update to newest v6.7.x and sync works for some time and then stops again because of network errors.

They must have changed something with the Sync-engine, but not for better... 😕 With all other browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Edge) syncing accounts works flawlessly. So why not "copy" their technics to make sync in Vivaldi work better?! 🤔

And here is what "tracert" says: sometimes a request timeout occurs, but not always. 😉

@twoleeland In my case, I tried 6.6 but same outcome saying (CONNECTION_RESET) although it was a bit better than 6.7.

Maybe I will try 6.5 and see...

Hi, I hope you don't install 6.6 over 6.7 with the same user data, this break your user profile and can cause such issues.
Anyway, we had another thread about and it was the ISP or a DNS problem.
One use had a firewall running blocking this.
I sync 12 Vivaldi installs on different hardware on Linux, Windows and Android and all sync fine.
Imagine all Vivaldi user cant sync anymore, the forum would explode.

I can't tell you why it's working in my situation with latest v6.6.x.
      What I do is following:

      • Unistalling v6.7.x, but keeping the browser-data.
      • Installing v6.6.x and log in to my account to start the sync, which then works.
      • Updating to latest v6.7.x and waiting till sync stops again with network errors.

Most times this works, but at rare times I need to do the above process twice, because sync stops working immediately after installing v6.7.x.

At home, I have no problems with Vivaldi-Sync, only at work. 😉

@twoleeland Some packet loss can appear, but traceroute is ok in such way.

@twoleeland Using 6.7 data and downgrading to 6.6 can cause some strange issues, Downgrades can cause unfixable issues in browser profiles.

⚠️Downgrade is not supported and advised by Vivaldi team.

The sync stopped working after some time with network error the first time after updating to the first official v6.7.x from v6.6.x. And as I wrote in previous post, before installing v6.6.x, I tried different things like log out from sync and so on. But after log out, I log in again and it hangs at initializing sync. 😒

They should increase the count of retry logic and/or the programmed time delays when network errors occur, before they mark it as "unrecoverable network error". Maybe it helps. 🤷♂ 😉

Ugh... That excactly what I did... Downgrading to 6.6 and 6.5 before knowing that it may cause unrecoverable errors...

Maybe I should try deleting my sync data and stop using Vivaldi for a while...

Hi, you can delete your profile folder and use sync to get your important data back.
I bet sync work in a new profile.
Or try this first in a second profile.

Hm, I sync 12 Vivaldi installs with 3 different sync accounts, no issues since years.
If sync were broken the forum would explode of threads about.

I know some user have issues but this can be anything like a broken profile, extensions, third party security tools and so forth.
One user report sync does not work with his ISP, if he connect over a cell phone hotspot it work, really strange.

      Cheers, mib

I got a new phone (Pixel 8a) so when I opened Vivaldi, I logged in and expected it to sync with my old phone and my laptop and desktop but on all devices it just says "Initialising sync..." and does nothing.

I changed my Vivaldi password and re-logged in on all devices but no change. Just sitting there doing nothing.

      1. How do I brute-force it to sync?
      2. Can it show sync progress?

All devices are connected to the network and the connection is working.
