"Update Error!" when checking for updates
-
i had been using Vivaldi.1.2.490.39 (64-bit) on Win 8.1 (64-bit); i realized i had not been receiving any auto updates for some time, and i tried to initiate a manual check/update. it gave: Update Error! An error occurred in retrieving update information; are you connected to the internet? Please try again later. ['Appcast XML data incomplete.'] i assumed something was wrong with release '.39'. i downloaded release '.43' (64-bit) manually, uninstalled the older release, rebooted the computer, and installed the new release. checking for update gave the same result. so, can i assume that something broken ? - ravi. https://vivaldi.net/en-US/forum/vivaldi-browser/12185-update-error-appcast-xml-data-incompleteHe is also on Win 8 - but no-one has a solution as yet.

Same here to me, i got problem like you update error on window 7 but i post 2 week ago no one solve my problem yet….

I have the same problem. Happens only at work.

@ravi04 said in "Update Error!" when checking for updates:
Appcast XML data incomplete
It would be really useful to know from where this xml and the delta update file is downloaded from, so a network admin can whitelist that domain.
I once found this "solution" but doesn't work anymore

@Gwen-Dragon Just checked, still happens to me. Only at work, though.

Damn firewalls/proxies, still the same for me at work
https://www.sslshopper.com/ssl-checker.html#hostname=update.vivaldi.com
still shows a problem in the certificate chain here at work. The certificate is not trusted in all web browsers. You may need to install an Intermediate/chain certificate to link it to a trusted root certificate. Learn more about this error. You can fix this by following GlobalSign's Certificate Installation Instructions for your server platform. Pay attention to the parts about Intermediate certificates.
No problems at home where there are no handcuffs on the network

@Gwen-Dragon Highly likely. Is there no other way for Vivaldi to do updates in such environment? Firefox and Chrome update just fine at work.
-
@iAN-CooG Same problem here.

Just for completeness, it seems there is really something not totally right with the certificate on https://update.vivaldi.com/update/1.0/win/appcast.xml
At home, while in Vivaldi the site info assures the connection is secure, infact I have no problems checking for updates and installing the delta updates here, the sslchecker above still warns that some browser could not like it and shows the certificate chain broken.
If I access the https://update.vivaldi.com/update/1.0/win/appcast.xml link in Firefox 52, it also warns in the site info that the connection is not secure, showing the certificate it saysOwner: This website does not supply ownership information.
Verified by: Not SpecifiedWith these premises, some network-controlling software could think the certificate is fake and deny the access, for example Kaspersky AV warns about this and hints to not connect.

this one also says
SSL Certificate is not trustedThe certificate is not signed by a trusted authority (checking against Mozilla's root store). If you bought the certificate from a trusted authority, you probably just need to install one or more Intermediate certificates. Contact your certificate provider for assistance doing this for your server platform.
but who has to install these Intermediate certificates? Me or you?

@Gwen-Dragon fantastic, everything ok also for the ssl checkers, update correctly informs that I have latest Snapshot, and site info lock is green.

Same problem on Windowds 7 mashine.
