AnySoftKeyboard and Vivaldi
-
(Latest versions of both AnySoftKeyboard and Vivaldi installed.)
I have started using AnySoftKeyboard on my Android (nifty one) but I've run into a problem.
What happens is that the keyboard shows no suggestions, both in Vivaldi's url entry field and in any input fields of web sites. First I thought this is a problem with AnySoftKeyboard but it functions perfectly fine with every other app I've tested, including Firefox (actually f-droid's fennec). But it doesn't with Vivaldi. I've toggled all options that could be responsible but to no avail.
Perhaps some other user has an idea as to why AnySoftKeyboard doesn't want to show suggestions?

Hm... probably the no of people using Vivaldi and ASK is not v great. So, that means another nail in the coffin for Vivaldi on Android. A while ago I've switched to fennec (f-droid's take on Firefox for Android) for most sites as it's faster and less bloated and supports extensions like uBlock etc. And apparently full extension support for Mobile Firefox is scheduled for December in FF's v120 release, see https://blog.mozilla.org/addons/2023/11/01/is-your-extension-ready-for-firefox-for-android/

@vt4711 Don't be too harsh on Vivaldi. Maybe, just maybe there is something off with AnySoftKeyboard.
Playstore won't let me install it on my Samsung A41 with Android 12: "this app will not work on you device."
If I download it through F-droid then I'm not able to complete the setup. It's latest version dates from January 2022. I'm removing it again. -
@S_Paternotte Sure, that's entirely possible and I wrote in my OP that ASK was indeed my primary suspect... until I tested/worked with around a dozen other apps on my phones/tablets all of which worked as expected.
As to why you can't installl ASK, no idea. I have it running on 3 phones (Android 8, 9, 12) and 2 tablets (9 and 10); one device is armeabi-v7a, the others arm64-v8a. Same .APK from f-droid.
It has some bugs (for instance the abbreviation editor is completely borked (no big deal though, because I prefer to import the abbrevs via an XML file)) and also some quirky behaviour. But so far it works much better than GBoard and also better than Swiftkey. All IMHO and YMMV.

I have similar problem using OpenBoard Keyboard - there are no keyboard suggestions while searching, no matter which search engine is used. Keyboard shows incognito icon while browsing in normal mode. Other browsers/apps work.
