      @DoctorG Said:

If you want to compare, do this to Chromium and not to Google product Chrome.

It's not about comparing, it's about acting honestly, i.e. testing Vivaldi with Adguard.

Ha ha ha ha ha! That's rich! I state a simple fact, and you think I'm taking sides and misinforming people. You must be one of those people who has your own facts.

My understanding is that Vivaldi is based on Chome. Well, if AdGuard AdBlocker words in Chrome, it might work in Vivaldi. Did you think of that? (If it's compatible.)

@CalebM, yes, but Vivaldi, nor other Chromium, is the same as Chrome, which is full o tracking APIs and shure other scripts which avoid problems in it's own YT page.
Vivaldi use the Blink engine, and with this the resemblance to Chrome ends.

Yes and no. Chromium is not the same as Chrome, Chrome has its own optimisation for Google products.

I was testing with Vivaldi on Linux; i was blocked by Youtube and Vivaldi without or with Adguard, same with Firefox 118 or Chromium 118 after a while.
You see, with Youtube testing may differ on country and OS.

I can not really tell that Vivaldi is the problem.
But if users experience a issue on Vivaldi, they could think: Vivaldi has a bug.

Oh yes, I forgot that Chrome and Chomium are not the same thing. But my point to Barbudo stands: Don't criticize me for simply stating a fact. Right at this time, there are no restrictions on YouTube when I view it in Chrome. When that changes, I'll start using different ad-blockers in both Vivaldi and Chrome until something works. YouTube wants us to pay $14 a month, and that is never going to happen.

to all it is NOT!!! Vivaldi problem or any other browser or even the adblockser problem need to find another player such as Freetube or use duck duck go browers and go in to setting and use there duck player . if you use the youtube player stuff is baked into the player that stops what your doing . Hoping that Vivaldi comes up with there own player to bypass this all . As i love Vivaldi

@HarleyHearts, same as in DDG player, in Vivaldi you can watch YT in the Feed Reader.
This, like in DDG, until Google realize it and puts countermeasures. With Invidious he had already tried it, although without success so far, since Invidios does not use the YT API to stream the videos, the same for the SMplayer on the desktop.
Google is fighting on many fronts, as more and more new measures emerge to show it the middle finger. In Greasy Fork new scripts against YT's anti adblocker come out almost daily.
While this lasts, victory cannot be declared, since many solutions will be temporary. It's a cat and mouse game.

There's been a new development now. When I try to access YouTube, all the pages are grayed out, meaning that there are gray markings where page elements should be. This started happening in just the last day, and it is happening in both Vivaldi and Chrome. It seems that they won't let you see anything if they sense an ad-blocker.

I wonder if they have really thought this through. I suspect their traffic is going to drop by half, which would make them a smaller player in the social media market. Is that what they want?

Well, it looks like YouTube and I are through. I tried it with Edge, which has no ad-blocker, and the ads are just too obnoxious, and there is no way in Hell that I am going to pay YouTube $14 a month. Both of those things are non-starters. Is there an alternative to YouTube?

                      Yes and No.
Yes, there are other "video sharing sites" but they're used by few people.
No, because who publish their content on youtube don't upload also elsewhere, so you won't find what you usually find on youtube.

@CalebM I upload my videos to Vimeo as well as YouTube. I have not explored the platform much, but there seems to be a lot of good content, and much less trash than there is on YouTube.

Until now the iFrame anti adblocker works quite well. Also streaming the vids in Invidious.
But yes, i also think that YT with this extreme mesures they will shoot in the own knee, increasing the use of countermeasures by users and their leakage to other platforms (Cobra effect)
Well, Vimeo is an alternative, but not free to use (free only 3 videos) and need an account, yes or yes. Depending on content there is also DailyMotion (free), D-Tube (FOSS), Odysee (freemium), Vidlii (free), Rumble (free), apart of some YT front-ends which still work (Piped, CloudTube and Invidious).

At the top of my YouTube index page today, is an ad from Total Adblock. 🤣 The Irony! I wonder how long that video will last before YouTube takes it down?

@Pesala I would not recommend that extension. If you look at the "privacy practices" section of that page you can see this extension steals user data.

In all likelihood this ad blocker (like most others) uses the same adblocker lists as vivaldi, so it may not make a difference anyway.

@CalebM My current workflow is that for YT I've defaulted to Block Trackers. Depending on the context I will either click on Skip Ad if that appears after a few seconds and continue watching, or I will stop the video, copy the url and paste it into FreeTube and watch ad-free there. If necessary I will also subscribe to the channel there so over time I can just go straight to FreeTube for my common channels. There are alternatives but it's working fine for me at the moment.

I also have a couple of extensions which can detect if a video also exists on Odysee or BitChute, so I can switch to one of those if required.

The problem is that while there are several competitors to YouTube, Google dominates the ad market along with Meta, so YouTube is much more lucrative to creators until such time as they are demonetised by Google.

YouTube also generally has better features and usability. Hardly surprising given its longevity and Google's megabucks.

So Google figures they can do this and not lose much. In fact, they probably gain overall.

I will also subscribe to the channel there so over time I can just go straight to FreeTube for my common channels.

Use Vivaldi Feed reader or extension Feedbro for channels or playlists:
