Bookmarks Toolbar - slow save of bookmarks?
-
I would like to know if there is a way to minimize the time it takes to save a bookmark. What I mean by that is whenever I want to save a webpage as a bookmark to the toolbar on the top I click on the blank icon in the address bar all the way at the end before the arrow down and then the dialog box opens up but the information that needs to populate as in the Bookmark name and the url takes ~20-30 seconds (not exact) but not as fast as I used to see when I use Brave. Can someone tell me why is this happening? How to fix this?
Thank you,

That's insane. For me it's instant when I bookmark a site. I have about 1000 bookmarks in 15 top-level folders.
Do you have a lot of bookmarks? Tens of thousands?
Are they in folders or all in the top folder?
Did you have the same amount of bookmarks in Brave? -
@bkhawaja It is not instant, but it is less than one second here. (I have 834 bookmarks)

@Pathduck
I have all the folders list under Bookmarks. What is the Top Folder? I don't think I have tens of thousands but how do you find out the no. Of bookmarks that I have? Yes I have the same no. If not less than Brave.Thank you,

The top folder or the root folder of your bookmarks structure, as seen in the bookmarks manager/panel.

Unfortunately not that easy.
If you use Vivaldi Sync, you can go tovivaldi://sync-internals
and it will list the Bookmarks:
On Windows you can use this excellent tool:
https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/web_browser_bookmarks_view.htmlI would think you'd at least have some idea of the number of bookmarks you've saved.
But I don't even know if it's the number of bookmarks or something else on your system causing this problem. All I know is that it does not happen for me.
Please try the troubleshooting steps, including testing in a clean profile and disabling adblocking/extensions:

Hi Pathduck,
"I would think you'd at least have some idea of the number of bookmarks you've saved"I honestly did not know how many I had but I did not think I had that many. That's why I could furnish any rough estimate. I do save a lot of bookmarks but I did not think I had 2500. Nonetheless I did not think there is a limit to how many bookmarks is too much to possibly cause this slowness! My computer is running well as I perform diagnostics and perform scheduled maintenance on a regular basis. No viruses, Malware or anything that could have infected my PC. I will for the sake of argument go through the troubleshooting steps since it is quiet lengthy (from the previous link that you had sent me) and once I find out what could be the culprit I will let you know. Lastly, do you think uninstalling Vivaldi and reinstalling it may resolve this issue? The clean profile would not have any bookmarks so I am not quiet sure how does that help in pinpointing the source of the problem.
Thank you,

@bkhawaja 2500 Bookmarks, while perhaps an above-average number, should not affect the performance of the browser at all. If they are all singletons and not organized into folders, I suppose it could cost Vivaldi a little time to enumerate them before saving a new one.

No, reinstalling just replaces the binaries with the exact same ones. Not unless you also choose to delete User Data (your profile).

Yes, by testing in a clean profile you can find out of the slowness in saving bookmarks is due to something in your regular profile. If it's fast in a test profile, you know there's an issue you need to investigate further.
One test then is copying your Bookmarks file from the old profile to the new, and testing again. If it's slow after that, you know the problem is in the bookmarks file. Simple logic.
For me with ~1000 bookmarks, saving is instant.
But I recently saw another user here with ~19000 bookmarks who had hangs OOM and crashes because of the number of bookmarks. How large is your bookmarks file in disk size?
