Phone chimes whenever pause or play is pressed in YouTube
-
My phone (T-Mobile Revvl 6) updated to Android 13 last night, and since then this has been happening:
-
Open a YouTube video in a tab
-
Press the video's play button
-
The video plays for a second, then the phone plays one of its little chime sounds. Then the video resumes playing.
-
If I push pause, the chime plays again. The phone chimes every single time pause or play is pushed.
What I've tried:
- Looked at notifications settings.
- Turned off Vivaldi's ad blocking entirely. (I do not have a 3rd party ad-blocker installed.)
- Exited and restarted Vivaldi (at least twice).
- Restarted the whole phone (twice).
- Checked the Google app store to make sure Vivaldi is up to date - it is.
- Checked to make sure the phone doesn't need any more updating - it says it's running Android 13 and is up to date currently.
None of those helped.
It's true that I don't completely know my way around the whole notifications ecosystem very well - could I have missed something?
This doesn't happen in Chrome or the Adblock browser. (I have the Adblock browser installed, but not Adblock itself.)
Thanks in advance for any help!

More information, if it helps:
-
The chiming also happens with Vimeo (I went to the Vimeo website and played one of the little sample videos on their home page).
-
Also happens if I play videos on search engine results pages. E.g. go to Google.com or DuckDuckGo.com, search for something, find a video result, and play it right there. In other words, you don't have to be on the YouTube website.

-
It doesn't happen with other media-playing apps. For instance I can pause and play audiobooks in the Libby app without any chiming, both in the app itself and from Quick Settings.
-
Turns out the sound it plays is what my phone calls the "Default notification sound."
Also, if I turn the "Ring and notification volume" setting all the way down, I don't hear it during videos anymore. This isn't a solution, though, since I have to be able to hear the phone ring and so on.
Is pushing pause (play, reverse, fast forward) somehow being confused with a notification? What might fix it?

@Inclement
Hi, it seems you are the only user report this, I guess it is a special T-Mobil device issue.
You can try to disable notifications in the Android settings for Vivaldi.
I would disable all at first, if this work you can disable Sound notifications.
Maybe there is a forum for these devices and some user use Vivaldi, ask in such forums if the app setting not work.Cheers, mib

The particular notification setting you need to disable for Vivaldi is "
Playing media
".Seems to be a widespread issue people encounter with all sorts of Chromium browsers. Found several posts in Google's support forum. Here is one that is answered: https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/157638238?hl=en&msgid=157642781
It is enabled on my install, but it is set to the
Other
importance category, so there isn't a sound or vibration associated with it. Having it in this state is useful for background video playback. -
Thanks, both of you! What you both said worked, as well as the page Nomadic linked to. And now I know where to go and what to look for in settings, which I didn't before.
What's confusing is that when I first went to Settings > Notification > App settings > Vivaldi Browser per instructions, the "All Vivaldi Browser Notifications" setting was already turned off. I must have turned it off long enough ago not to remember doing it. The chiming happened anyway.
But I turned things variously on and off and back on again.
Right now, these are the settings, and there is no chiming anymore:
-
Settings > Notifications > App settings > Vivaldi Browser > All Vivaldi Browser Notifications = ON
-
[...] > Vivaldi Browser > All General Notifications = ON
-
[...] > All General Notifications > Playing media = ON
-
[...] > Playing media > Show notifications = ON
-
[...] > Playing media = SILENT (No sound or vibration)
Thanks again.
