How Many Bookmarks Do You Have?
-
I have, 2,835 bookmarks in 98 folders, which I think is rather a lot. No doubt some are broken or no longer required since I have accumulated these over many years of using Old Opera from 5.0 onwards and still use Opera 12.17 as my default (I know about 12.18 but it prevents me accessing some forums). You can do a Find and Replace of "URL" and "FOLDER" in Bookmarks.adr to count the bookmarks precisely. I thought it might be helpful to the developers to get some idea of how many bookmarks users have when it comes to developing Sync, and further features for organising bookmarks such as Tags, which seems to be a popular feature request. (I am happy with using Nicknames)

18k total items in Firefox's bookmark manager. If I search for all bookmarks and use ctrl+a to select all bookmarks, selected count is 15k. So I guess that means about 3k folders.
Funny thing is it has never happened that I would wish I didn't have so many bookmarks, but it happens on occasion that I wish I had bookmarked something. Bookmarks don't feel cluttered at all. The thing I miss the most is better search tools.
One thing you need to be careful with polls like that, is that they don't paint a complete picture. How many bookmarks would people have on average if tools were better? With only default tools in (any) web browser large amount of bookmarks get hard to manage. So people adjust to technology. Like if someone made a poll in '99 on how many people use cell phones to take pictures. Data can get skewed because of available technology.

A fair point, but they might also have fewer if there was a tool like AM Deadlink built in to find and remove duplicates and broken bookmarks.

A forum poll like this is not very representative, especially with so few votes, but I am a bit surprised to see that (so far) 50% of users have fewer than a 1000 bookmarks. I thought that I had only a few more than the average user.
In the light if this, I wonder why so many users want Sync so badly, and all kinds of other sophisticated features.
If I want to "sync" my Vivaldi bookmarks with my Opera 12.17 bookmarks, I just delete them all, and import them again. It only takes a few minutes. I guess that some users must be using multiple devices and several differeent browsers.

Mainly, as it's considered a "common feature" from a lot of users which come from chrome or firefox - both with sync..
It'd be cool an all-in-one tool backup/restore similar to MozBackup for all the browser elements (settings, extensions, data, ecc) rather for the bookmarks only.
I usually make an .html backup when I reorganize them and now doesn't happen so often. In my case, I've about 750 bookmarks and 35 folder/subfolders.
Several bookmarks point to sites which has playlist/favorites system (similiar to bookmarks) and others are "unique" links or dead links I kill/update with newer ones to keep a lower number of bookmarks. -

I actually think the poll should have had more granularity below 500 bookmarks, since I suspect most people (like me) only have a couple of dozen "real" bookmarks. I have a bunch that have been carried over from the default bookmarks of several long-dead systems plus a bunch more that I looked at once or twice a decade ago but never again since then - if I went through and deleted everything I never actually use, there'd only be a handful left!

I wasn't too concerned with people who had few bookmarks, but wondered how many had a lot and might, therefore, need more or better features for managing large numbers of bookmarks. If users only have 100 or fewer, they probably don't need extra tools for tagging, finding duplicates, or syncing.
I have rather a lot, it seems, but then I have been using Opera for many years. I do a little organising from time to time, pruning redundant bookmarks mostly, or adding nicknames and improving the title.
Edit: I would have to change my vote now after using AM Deadlink to clean up my bookmarks, as I now only have 1394 bookmarks in 88 folders, and I emptied the trash too.
Currently, 65% have 1,000 or fewer bookmarks. If the poll results were reversed, with 65% of users having 2,000 or more bookmarks, the developers might want to give more attention to bookmark management tools.

What I'd REALLY like, is better bookmark sorting/management. I recently installed "Auto-Sort Bookmarks" to Firefox, and it's been a godsend. I sort various folders by either title, last visit date, or visit count. It makes clean-up a breeze.
I don't think Vivaldi stores the requisite metadata for this to work, but OMG if they implemented it, I'd never look back!
For any Firefox users, here's the link: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/auto-sort-bookmarks/

i have more than 5,000 bookmarks in total, i am at the same Pesala's situation. I hope the sync includes all the bookmark fields (url, url title – obvious --, mainly nickname and description, also the bookmarks/folders marked as speed dial and/or bookmark bar)
