auto https why?????
-
This is driving me nuts. I'm trying to connect a local Supermicro server IPMI and Vivaldi automatically changes the url to https even tho "Always use secure connection (https)" is unchecked. Vivaldi is the only browser that does this. I do not want a secure connection because -
- It's a local connection not routed to the Internet.
- Vivaldi will not save the password if it's an unsecured https connection.
Please will someone tell me why the heck it's doing this???????

Vivaldi's automatic HTTPS redirection is likely due to security measures and browser updates. It may be influenced by factors such as HSTS headers, browser cache, extensions, or recent changes in Vivaldi's default behavior. While you may not require a secure connection for your local IPMI, you can try accessing it directly using the IP address or consider using an alternative browser for this specific connection. Remember, HTTPS is generally recommended for secure internet communication.

@EdwardMatthew said in auto https why?????:Vivaldi's automatic HTTPS redirection
No, there is not such setting enabled.
I can visit http://example.org/ and am not redirected to https://example.org/ .And i tested with a local domain of my test web server in LAN. I can visit the non-SSL site and do not get redirected to SSL.
But some browser extensions can force you to https (SSL).

While it's true that some browser extensions can force HTTPS (SSL) connections, Vivaldi's automatic HTTPS redirection may still be influenced by other factors, such as browser cache, HSTS headers, or recent changes in default behavior. It's possible that your specific setup or configuration differs from the typical behavior.

@Stubby As have been mentioned, HSTS is a possibility, depending on the hostname domain (if it is named like
host.internal.company.com
then, ifcompany.com
set HSTS for subdomains, you are sunk unless you use a guest profile or private window.Another, more likely reason is that you are seeing Chromium's replacement for "Always use HTTPS" in action: "HTTPS first". Newer Chromium versions will quickly tests port 443, and use that if it responds and replace HTTP with HTTPS automatically. When this is enabled, and it has been enabled in a couple chromium versions now, it never checks the "Always use preference", and I assume the pref will be removed completely within a couple of months.
BTW, anything, especially server firmware, using HTTP-only should be immediately decommisioned and recycled, preferably before it was purchased.

Turns out it's only this one box that has the problem so obviously it's the box and not Vivaldi. I'll explore some more as soon as I fire it back up.
Thanks guys for the help.
