ICS import visual bug
-
@yojimbo274064400 That is the window I see, but it never says "Done" - it's continuously stuck at 0/8, even after the import is finished.
-
Retested with larger ICS file and found issue is reproducible. Please raise a bug report here Report a Bug | Vivaldi Browser and consider post the resulting VB reference here.
FYI the Troubleshooting issues in Vivaldi Calendar | Vivaldi Browser Help suggests validating the ICS here iCalendar Validator

@yojimbo274064400 Done! VB-98474
I've checked out that troubleshooting tip and the file was valid. Wouldn't make much sense for it to be invalid since I didn't touch it after exporting from Evolution, but I checked just to be safe.Again, the events will be imported, it just looks like nothing's happening.

@vladimirnesic I have tried multiple times to reproduce this without any success, the dialog always ends up with Done after import. Also read through the code looking for possible ways for this to get stuck without finding anything obvious.
Did you import to a local calendar account or to a calendar which is synced to a server? Does this still happen if you try to import from a .ics file
-
@eggert I am still not seeing "Done", I'm afraid.
The callendar is synced, I don't think it is local. The "sync calendar active" checkbox is checked, but feel free to tell me if that wasn't what you meant.
-
@vladimirnesic That was exactly what I was asking for.
The import process is a bit different depending on whether the event is saved only in a local database in Vivaldi or synced to a server. Unfortunately though this did not help me to reproduce the problem. Import constantly works fine and the dialog shows Done afterwards.
Is the calendar stored on one of the big providers, like Google or Apple, or some other service? Does adding events in Vivaldi work correctly and without abnormal delays?
Would it be possible for you to share a screenshot of the calendar list in settings with the calendar you are trying to import into selected? Of course with any personal info you don't want to share blurred or deleted.
-
@eggert no, it's strictly a Vivaldi calendar. I wanted to import everything to one place, which works from the technical side, but it's not visually apparent, so there aren't any other services I've even exported the calendar to, let alone connected to. There are no delays while importing whatsoever, although having a repeating event expectedly takes more time to load; nothing out of the ordinary.
These are the only calendar and calendar account I use.
-
Issue seems to occur when there is a recurrence event present in ics as evident when importing file with:
- an event without recurrence
- an event with recurrence
- events with and without recurrence
NB all events are successfully created AFAICS:

@yojimbo274064400 @vladimirnesic Thank you both for those extra bits of info. I have now been able to reproduce the error using a calendar file with repeating and non repeating event importing to a vivaldi.net calendar. For me it actually seems to flash Done for a moment and then go back to and get stuck on 1/2
Hopefully what remains is the easier part of fixing the problem.

A fix for the way I could reproduce the situation has been pushed. I can not be sure that it fixes all cases but I am hopeful
Didn't make it in time for the upcoming 6.2 stable release but should be in the next snapshot and daily builds.
