YouTube is apparently testing the blocking of videos unless the user disables the ad blocker
-
@edwardp, InviZible Pro is also in Google Play, if you prefer to download it from there. F-Droid is a very established and reliable source of only OpenSource apps (see several posts here why Vivaldi isn't in F-Droid), you can download the F-Droid app also on Google Play.
I use as little as possible this factory of ads, neutered apps and hidden costs from Google Play. Google hates adblockers and it is doubtful that InviZible Pro would be just as efficient if you download it from Google play, just like it happened with Blokada, another adblocker that was only a "light" version in the Playstore. -
@Catweazle If Google eventually goes international with that policy, I would not be surprised to see them remove any apps from the Play Store that are known to block ads on YT.
-
Please provide a link to a video where this occurs. (YT detect Ad blocker)
-
@barbudo2005 The articles reporting this, do not reference exactly where in the world YT is experimenting with this.
I'm in the U.S. and with the ad-blocker on, YT here is still playing videos. I skimmed through the Reddit thread reporting this (the link is in the Android Police article) and I didn't see any comments as to where this was occurring.
-
My interest was to know whether or not it occurs with uBO.
-
@barbudo2005 I do not use uBO.
-
@edwardp
if it does not occur in uBO, this means that it is possible to improve the ad blocker to avoid being detected by YT (assuming that the lists are the same). -
I watch a lot of YouTube so ended up paying for YouTube Premium
-
@edwardp, one more reason to use F-Droid
-
@RiveDroite
I have done the same. -

Bad thing to give in to Google (YouTube).

@barbudo2005 I get it, but on the other hand, if I'm watching creators content and blocking ads, they don't get revenue for it. As much as I hate giving Google money, I also don't like the idea of ripping off content creators. I don't judge what other people do, this is just my personal view on how I do things.
-
A question:
YouTube give revenues to creators if the ads appears or if you click on them?
-
Creators get revenue for if ads appear and more if ads are clicked on. I hate ads, I watch lots of YouTube, creators still get revenue from Premium users but we don't get the ads. So for me it's worth it.
-
Another question:
Wouldn't it be more efficient from the point of view of the money creators receive, to give the Premium subscription money directly to the creators through Patreon or Flow?
-
@barbudo2005 sure, but honestly that would take a lot more work on my part to remember and then decide how much to give each channel I watch. I do that for the channels I watch the most if they have a Patreon.
-
@barbudo2005 YouTube or Patreon will take their cut. Twitter will allow creators to receive 100% of subscriptions for the first year, then take 10% after that period.
It is too early to say whether it will prove to be a better option. YouTube already has a very large following.
I do not monetize my channel, which has just 127 subscribers.
Videos with ads are unwatchable for me, but I can deal with skipping past inline promotions by the Channel owner. Most of these promotions are scams, to be frank.

Very easy. You give them once a year :

@RealJosephKnapp
Especially since uBO has an expiration date just like yogurt.

Apart of ads, YT is also full of clickbaits. Installing this extension youll see the difference how YT manipulate texts and thumbnails to encourage clicking on them.
Its fine that creators receive money with the amount of suscriptions and likes, but most ads are not to financiar them. Apart it is a right of selfdefense to block ads in the middle of an concert.
If they were just some banner on the page or some scroll ad on the bottom edge of the video, they wouldn't need to be cut, but it shouldn't be surprising that people use adblockers or front-ends when YT destroys videos with commercial interruptions.
