can't start using email
-
I can't start using email because in the account page I don't have a field to enter my phone number. What's the reason? I confirmed the account in the mail, but there is no field to enter the phone number
upd
i see, reputation system have been worked since may, 4, 2023
i cant using webmail until i get reputation score -
I'm in the same boat. Missed the cutoff date. Anyway, it is a complete secret - the reputation system. Set back and wait for algorithm to work there magic . Maybe in a year or two a link will pop up letting you start an email account. Whatever.
-
@gardenhere @m2s assuming a like will help the reputation, I gave both of you one. I know nothing about the inner workings of that system beyond of what they wrote in their blog post...
This means that new users will not be able to use Vivaldi Webmail immediately after creating the account. Theyโll have to participate in Forum discussions, interact with others on Vivaldi Social, share their browser themes, post on their blog and/or sync their browser data to collect โpointsโ.
I don't think it's going to take a year
Have you been using Vivaldi before and are you now just signing up for webmail? Let us know if you need help setting anything up with the browser which you can use without any limitations. Just discussing that will probably speed up the process

@WildEnte said in can't start using email:

i recently started testing browsers for myself to determine the choice, looked at usability, what features, connections to servers (privacy) and other things. in the process of testing i came to choose librefox and vivaldi for different tasks. and in the tests i deleted my vivaldi account several times. and yesterday i decided to finally stay it, because it also has mail
does smb know how many reputation points do I need to unlock mail?

@m2s said in can't start using email:

No, they keep that secret on purpose such that spammers can't easily work their way around the system.
Note that Vivaldi offers webmail as a service, which is what is locked until you have earned the reputation points. The email client which is integrated in the browser is completely independent of the community services. It works for any IMAP (or POP3) server and email address you may already have without any further ado.
-
@WildEnte I get it. vivaldi mail is like a nice bonus. and you should not count on it as the main mail I think.
-
LLonM moved this topic from Mail on
-
@m2s right. Vivaldi webmail is just another email address for you
-
@WildEnte Question does this mean that Vivaldi using tracking information to determine the reputation score? I don't see any other way to determine reputation score expect to track one's activity.
I have used Vivaldi on android for some time and have a profile that I use for android and email account for use with android. I'm starting to use Vivaldi more on desktop and wanted to have a different profile (work profile) for desktop with email address with the same name as the profile name.
-
@gardenhere Reputation does not happen from activity.
It happens because people upvote your comments.
Otherwise, Vivaldi (or anyone) can see how many times you have commented in the forums. It's not "tracking." It's a publicly visible aspect of your profile. If you click on "Users" on the top bar, and sort by "top Posters" You can see I have commented 18,514 times since I joined on JAN 27, 2015, 10:51 AM.
I suppose it's possible if you comment 50 or 100 times, Vivaldi will unlock your email account, even if no one ever liked or upvoted anything you said. I don't know. They have not told us mods how "reputation" will unlock webmail. It is certain, however, that if you blog on this site, that is supposed to help.
-
@gardenhere to add to what @Ayespy said, according to the blog post using sync also helps. Vivaldi has no access to the data that is being synced, it's protected with your encryption password. But while Vivaldi does not know what data is synced, I assume they know if you sync data, after all it's running through their servers.

@Ayespy
Maybe it's tied to the age of your account. we can only speculate.maybe someone new will get access soon and we'll know the conditions)
-
I still can't use webmail as well.
-
@alcazone well you just joined the community yesterday so I guess that is kind of by design (-:
Welcome to the forum!

Thank you

For (hopefully) obvious reasons, we don't share what activities help to build reputation, but I can say that you can do it with all services (excluding Webmail itself). If forums aren't your thing, take a look at Vivaldi Social, Community Blogs, Themes or even Sync.
But we hope you won't use the services only for the sake of getting access to Vivaldi Webmail. -
@alcazone
There was a major spam problem, with a few VivaldiMail accounts.
But then it became massive.Vivaldi considered verifying the mail accounts via telephone number.
But this is a privacy issue and can be worked around.Vivaldi did not feel comfortable with collecting phone numbers and decided on this new solution based on trust.
I think this is the best and most successful solution and I am happy that Vivaldi is trying this way.
Speaks for me, also for Vivaldi.But for trust to develop, it also needs some time.

@ingolftopf My grievance is that after making a new account (I used Vivaldi for years but had no reason to make account for webmail until now) there is no way the new user can find out how to connect to webmail, and no way to know why webmail does not work. https://webmail.vivaldi.net is hidden beyond reason in various help sites disconnected from the main login page.
My suggestion:
Add a note for people creating the new account that "webmail is disabled until you explore the forums and contribute to the community." -
@CatherineL
The new concept is, as I said, based on trust.Welcome here to the forum.
At least you can now create your own signature here with these
.
