How to configure IMAP/SMTP folder mapping
-
Preconditions
- Configure Vivaldi Mail to read IMAP/SMTP mail from a public service (tested with Mail.Ru)
- Have exactly one mail account configured in Vivaldi Mail
Steps to reproduce
- Inspect the Vivaldi Mail Panel, noticing two folders:
- All mail > Trash
- All accounts > [specific account] > Trash
What should happen
- The content of the two above folders should be identical; In fact, it should not be two different folders with identical, or synchronised content, it should be the exact same content, as if one folder name is a symlink to the other
What happens instead
- There are differences in the content of the two above folders; I did notice some of the emails existing in both, but 'All Mail > Trash' contains 99 emails, while 'All accounts > [specific account] > Trash' contains 110
Question 1, specific: How do I get from "What happens instead" to "What should happen"?
Question 2, general: How do I configure which server folder maps to which Vivaldi folder? For example, trash, sent, spam etc? -

⋮Where Vivaldi's email client has an existing copy of a message that no longer exists on the server it will maintain that copy in the All Message > Trash. This may explain the discrepancy between All Message > Trash and the account's Trash folder count. @yojimbo274064400 thanks a lot for helping.
Where Vivaldi's email client has an existing copy of a message that no longer exists on the server it will maintain that copy in the All Message > Trash.
This kinda would make sense if the numbers were opposite. But if what you're saying is true, I don't see how it would be possible that 'All Messages > Trash' could have fewer items than 'Account > Trash'. Or perhaps I didn't quite understand you here. Could you give me a specific example of a situation where your explanation would cause 'All Messages > Trash' to have fewer emails than 'Account > Trash'?
Vivaldi's email client uses the special folder attribute assigned by the email server to determine this.
In other words, this is impossible to configure, correct? Where can I read more about the mentioned special folder attributes and how exactly Vivaldi is defined to use them?
Thanks again.

I would agree that it is odd to see how there could be a greater count in Account > Trash than All Messages > Trash; try selecting each Trash folder, right click, and select Advanced > Rerun Filter for Folder to see if that makes a difference to the count.
