Why is Vivaldi taking about 14 GB space in c drive, please help to clean it up.
-
My C drive was getting full, so I was cleaning/uninstalling unnecessary applications on it. I used WinDirStat to figure it out what was taking so much space, to my surprise Vivaldi was taking about 14 GB in AppData. Specially "C:\Users\Chandan\AppData\Local\Vivaldi\User Data\Default\File System" seems to be taking a lot of space, & in perticular a folder "035" in the directory is occupying about 9.22 GB.
I need help to remove the unnecessary files and free up some space, please help. (Below are the screenshots)

@CGreenP Hmm, i do not find a folder
File System\
in Default folder.
https://www.ghacks.net/2015/06/24/hard-drive-filling-up-check-chromes-file-system-folder/Perhaps by some download or file sharing extension or Chromium App causing this?
-
Thank you very much
, after going to chrome://settings/ (vivaldi://settings/) & doing Clear browsing data seems to have cleared a lot of space, about 12 GB is removed from the C drive. I guess, temporary files were taking so much space.
Anyways, thank you so much for the help. Hope you have a nice day !

@CGreenP Nice to see Clear Browsing Data helped.
But we do not know which was causing so much data. The browser cache is in a seperate folder, not below "File System".
-
@CGreenP Some sites use the File System API for downloads. One such example is
mega.nz
and it uses the File System folder but never clears it after download.https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/FileSystem
Do you use any such sites for downloads?
The regular browser cache in Vivaldi will rarely exceed 1GB.

That was my first idea. Mega's file sharing extension causing this.
-
@DoctorG Yeah, but not just the extension, regular downloads from Mega will also use FileSystem.
-
@Pathduck Ah, ok. Learned some new thing.

Unfortunately such Chromium-alike profile has much data pollution and bad Google documentation does not really help, causing so much time waste.
I see such data hungry profile when i create backups, and after a while the NAS is full of crap, i never knew which files are really needed for Vivaldi. That's why Ctrl+Shift+Del is my friend to reduce the mess. And sometimes deletion of a Vivaldi profile in NAS and bakup again.
-
Yeah, I recently have done regular downloads from Mega which was about 10 GB.

@CGreenP Settings, Privacy and Security, Save Browsing History, Session Only, will keep your system tidy as long as you restart Vivaldi from time to time.
Create a bookmark to
vivaldi://restart
then it takes just one click. -
