Export / save passwords
How can I export or save the password DB? I'm doing a clean Win install and don't want to lose any passwords. I'm coming from Opera and since they have the feature to sync everything to their own server, and the "Google Chrome settings" won't let me save or sync Vivaldi-passwords to any server (or locally for that matter), I'm on the verge of going back to Opera.
If you already have your passwords in Opera, then just import them again to the new installation.
If you mean Opera as Opera 12, you can import the logins.
But if you mean new Opera >= 15.x you have lost the passwords.
Why? You made a clean Windows install. Opera passwords were encrypted with a key generated from your old user account and old Windows installation.
That is a "security feature" on Windows with all browsers running on Chromium code like Chrome, Chromium, Vivaldi and new Opera.
You should use a password manager as KeePass2 + KeepassHTTP plugin + ChromeIPass extension to insert/store logins in browser; with this KeePass login database you can backup/copy to new Windows accounts.
Thanks for the replies.
I have not done a clean install yet, as I want to be sure my logins are not lost when I proceed to format the drive.
I will check out KeePass, but generally I don't trust online password managers like LastPass (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MlmEiT5bhxg ).
I hope Vivaldi can do something about this; a form of local export of database.
