Bugs, Memory Leak, Multiple Websites Won't Work...

A browser is supposed to WORK to browse the internet !
When sites are not loading and you have to close the browser when only one window is open with about 100 tabs (when I used to be able to have 5-6 windows open with that number of tabs in each, Your Updates ARE THE PROBELM !!!
So Don't you Dare try and play the BS Microsoft Game and point the finger of blame at me !!!
Furthermore it is NOT up to me to do this or try that to fix this when it always happens AFTER you do another Update until another Update comes along and fixes it and then you do another Update and the same thing happens again !!!
This has been the pattern for the past several months and Enough is Enough !!!
ALL OF YOU DEVEOPERS NEED TO STOP ADDING MORE BLOARWARE BELLS AND WHISTLES THAT WE NEITHER NEED, WANT OR WILL USE AND MAKE THE BROWSER A STABLE PLAFOR TO BE USED TO BROWSE THE INTERNET !!!
All of these unnecessary Bells and Whistles can be Vivaldi Browser Extensions that people can choose to add OR NOT and not be FORCED upon us to cause all of these problems. The whole left side bar is filled and a lot of what has been added is BLOATWARE. Every update you add has some new "features" that are not necessary and NOT what I (and many others) either need or want!! The excuse of ______ other browser doing it doesn't mean a thing to any of us who use your browser as well ! We're here BECAUSE we don't want to use those other browsers so Pay Attention to US as your users!
We WANT SPEED, LESS BULLSHIT and TO BE ABLE TO GET OUR WORK DONE FASTER !!!
That's why we use Vivaldi !!!
We're trying to get work done and Don't Need This CRAP to be happening to us !!!
We Need this Browser to be Sped up and Not Boated Down !
The only thing that's needs to be added to the browser is things that increase the speed
-
COOKIE NOTICE BLOCKER - Block them all, or automatic approval that puts then in a container that's automatically dumped either every 24 hours or every 7 days. GET THE DAMN BOXES THE HELL OFF OF OUR SCREENS !!!!!!!!!
-
FLASH/VIDEO BLOCKER - I DO NOT need videos to Auto Play on ANY Wesbite. Opera had an option to have a right facing arrow show up on ALL Video's to click on them to play and it worked on ALL websites. You're the Next generation of Opera so get back to your roots and Go Back to what worked before !
-
PAYWALL BLOCKER - The purpose of the internet is to be able to use the internet and NOT to be prevented from using it ! being allowed to use 1-3 pages before the 'Fuck You Cookie" is installed on my browser or my IP or MAc address is recorded by a website is BULLSHIT and you need to stop allowing these Bastard Run Websites from Blocking Us from viewing content. The specifically applies to newspapers and media websites of all types as they are THE WORST ! How the hell can we get business research done on potential clients. business projects or historical research done when they're blocking us from even look at websites without paying them for a subscription that we don't want or need as it's only project work for a short span of time on a specific subject?
You need to figure out some way that all of these Paywalls can be blocked and the site can be viewed and that includes PREVENTING these websites in the HTML Code from removing the Overflow attribute to a page or having a way that adds code to all webpages to allow an over ride to Overflow Blocking be websites. If we can't scroll a page that is Bullshit as well since uBlock Origin only works so well to remove elements and these Internet Web Developer Terrorists that are destroying the internet need to be BLOCKED from screwing everyone over.
DO NOT TELL ME ABOUT DAMN EXTENSIONS FOR THAT! I HAVE SEVERAL AND THEY ONLY WORK PART OF THE TIME !
FIX THE DAMP PROBLEM - DON'T TELL ME THAT I NEED TO DO THIS OR THAT... FIX THE DAMN PROBLEMS ON THE BROWSER SIDE !!!
Don't force "Reading List" (we use Bookmarks for that) or Note's (I have a Notepad and don't need it in the browser)
or Window (haven't needed it for 30 years and don't need it now either) or Translate (which doesn't work half of the times I tried and and I've used several websites like Google, Bing etc. for that for years and Don't need it to be a part of the browser) Mail (Should be an optional extension and only if it links to Vivaldi Webmail and that link is in my bookmarks bar) Calendar, (Should be an optional extension since I have other programs that I use) Tasks (Should be an optional extension) Feeds (Should be an optional extension, not everyone needs feeds and can accomplish going through life and living without an instant need to know things that are not that important other than to the feed producer) Contacts ( I have a contact management software and don't need it in my browser and any that are in Vivaldi Webmail are stored there and I don't need them in the browser) Social - NOT NEEDED, I can log into the ones I need and Don't need it within any browser. Wikipedia belongs in Bookmarks and not on a browser panel. As for your changelog, take a long look at it...
How much of all of those bells and whistles are needed for ALL of your users for every day usage ?
Maybe 5% of the users actually need all of those bells and whistles, which means that they need to be extensions.
You need to get back to the basics and just FOCUS on Speed, Reliability and blocking the things that are making the internet hard to use. Everything else comes after that and is Superfluous to the basic needs of any browser.
Stand out from the other bloatware browsers that way as that's all that's needed!
Now PLEASE, PLEASE FIX THE PROBELMS OUTLINED HERE and make Vivaldi Better by using Common Sense!

@CR_FABEvents Vivaldi is clearly not a suitable browser for you. Feel free to use any other browser that meets your needs better.
-
PPathduck moved this topic from Vivaldi for Windows on
-
@CR_FABEvents I have exactly none of the problems of which you complain. None. Not on multiple-multiple instances of Vivaldi on multiple machines on 4 different operating systems.
I have customized Vivaldi to be a comfy workspace for me. I get my work done in Vivaldi (which serves as my electronic office) faster than I ever could in any other browser. So in that way, it meets my needs.
Therefore there is something different between your setup, work habits, use-case and mine. If you'd rather not invest the time and effort to figure out why Vivaldi misbehaves for you and not others, then that makes it rally hard for us to help you get squared around. If you are willing to participate in the process, other users here are more than willing to try to help you make Vivaldi work right for your use-case, and on your system.

To Pesala,
Your reply only proves that your opinion and response along with others who share your mindset in the tech industry ARE THE REAL PROBELM HERE!
In my previous post I specifically stated that it is NOT up to ME to DO ANYTHING.
YOU meaning the VIVALDI TEAM are the ones who have caused these ongoing problems with YOUR Product and it is up to YOU to do as your Customers are telling your and FIX YOUR PRODUCT to meet our needs and requirements!!!
We, the end users of your product are your customers.
Here are the Two Rules for any business...
-
The Customer is Always Right for without the customer, you do not have a viable operating business.
-
Even if you believe that the Customer is Wrong, refer back to Rule No. 1 above.
Those two rules above do not include replying to the customer who is very unhappy about the problems that your product is causing in my life and my ability to do the work that I do, by telling them to go somewhere else.
That is the kind of attitude that gets people Sacked/Fired from their employment and if that wrongful mindset is prevalent within any operating company; may very well end that company as a viable business operation.
As someone who grew up in the Seattle area starting when Microsoft and DOS was just a new company and OS that was bought from a computer club, I've seen the attitude that you just displayed to me far too often in this region from people in your industry. It is that attitude that IS the problem as you Whiz Kid's ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whiz_Kids_(Ford) )need to focus on the two rules above in order to be successful in the long term for any business or venture. Over time, hopefully you'll start to figure that basic reality of how business really works out since that has been proven for centuries.
Now in the mean time, One of Your Customers has taken the time to tell you what is wrong with your browser when most others won't bother, So STOP copping your disrespectful attitude and FIX THE PROBLEMS because they are Problems with YOUR product and your dismissing them only precipitates your failure as a viable company and future unemployment your yourself and others who work for your company if you fail to take notice and fix the problems.

I've recently switched from brave to vivaldi because this browser is exactly what I'm looking for.
But I'm considering switching back because of constant crashes and other issues. And the philosophy in this forum seems to be to blame extension. All the other browsers work exactly how they are supposed to, but vivaldi seems to struggle with stability. I'm going to give it a few more weeks and if these problems keep happening, I'm going to have to switch back unfortunately.I don't think I'm suppose to, as an end user, to be constantly troubleshooting like I'm running a linux distro.
-
Well you're one of the fortunate ones then...
Yet how many others in the world are out there like me with these problems that you never hear from?
Is this why Vivaldi hasn't become as big as other browsers share wise?
Again, this is the attitude in the tech industry that destroys companies in the long term.

@CR_FABEvents No one here can help you if you will not be helped.
We don't know and can't know anything about your system (software and hardware), 3rd party software that may conflict with Vivaldi (both actively and passively), extensions in use (which are built for Chrome, not Vivaldi, and do not take the Vivaldi Chromium patches and UI layer into account), use habits or desired tasks, or what sites give you trouble. Absent this knowledge it's literally impossible to help you get Vivaldi to work right, or to re-write Vivaldi to suit your circumstances, which are, after all, unique.
Literally thousands of users have overcome local quirks that were hurting Vivaldi on their machine, taking advantage of the help offered on the Forum, but only because they were willing to pitch in. Absent this willingness, no one could have helped them, either. But now they are happy.
Vivaldi is eight years old, does not make a profit, and has, like, 20 developers. It seeks to be flexible and customizable, not dirt-simple and able to work on all systems in all circumstances. If it sought the latter, it would be Chrome. There already is a Chrome, so to copy it would be pointless.
Chrome on the other hand has a multi-billion dollar corporation with thousands of developers and unlimited resources, so it can test against tens of thousands of different setups and configurations and use-cases, so as to make its dirt-simple browser hard to break. Further, 3rd-party software vendors often build their stuff to take Chrome (not Vivaldi) into account.
So, if you want a zero-effort, zero-thought, hard-to-break application, you may instead find with Vivaldi that for your own circumstances it requires some involvement and effort on your part. Users are here to help you with that. It's pointless to rail against Vivaldi's business model, unique aims and niche traits. You can't equip Vivaldi with thousands of developers, endless resources or a different business model.
You can, however, meet us where we are. Because, really, we are not capable of meeting you where you are. So it's up to you.

Nothing to add on the main topic that hasn't already been said, but since more than one person might have misunderstood something, figured I should point out that the labels

are volunteer positions.@Pesala
and@Ayespy
are not the "Vivaldi team".We are all just volunteers here trying to help other users with their problems. We can only do so much to help, and we can do basically nothing if people aren't willing to help us help them.

@Tsvetkov1964 the comparison to Brave is flawed, let me explain: Brave made millions and millions of dollars right at launch with their cryptocurreny based business model https://techcrunch.com/2017/06/01/brave-ico-35-million-30-seconds-brendan-eich/
They invested heavily into a super focused (=narrow) product offering of combining a totally barebone browser with an adblock solution where creator's ads are blocked while they promote their own ads with their own cryptocurrency. Essentially they are a cryptocurrency advertising broker with a browser front with very good marketing. If you make $35M in 30s which is dominated by 130 investors because you bring a new cryptocurrency on the market right when that is the biggest hype of the day, that goes to show that Brave listening to what their browser users want has nothing to do with it.
Hiring more developers is certainly going to help but if you ever consider running a business, you will want to make sure you are able to pay them. It's a chicken and egg problem which Vivaldi solves with new partner deals, now becoming the first browser in cars, which will increase the user base significantly (tens of millions) https://www.autoevolution.com/news/beat-this-google-chrome-this-browser-will-soon-be-available-in-over-40-million-cars-211227.html
With increased number of users they will have more cashflow which will allow hiring more developers. -
@CR_FABEvents a lot of the stuff you don't want in your browser is optional.
Email, calendar and feeds completely can be disabled in the settings.
You also can remove the other unwanted panels from the side bar like: reading list, notes, translate, tasks, social, etc. You're not forced to use them. Vivaldi is highly customizable. So just remove what you don't want to use.
For me this is the best part of Vivaldi, I can add closely everything to the sidebar but I also can (literary) remove everything from it. -
Hi @CR_FABEvents,
We’re very sorry for trouble. This is definitely not the experience we want you to have with Vivaldi.
When you provide us with more information about the specific issues you’re encountering, like the one with loading pages, we’ll try to reproduce the bug. If we can do that then of course we’ll do our best to fix the bug. If we don’t have any details we won’t know what exactly needs fixing. For example, start by telling us which operating system you use Vivaldi on, when exactly the issue occurs, does it happen on specific websites (share links) or with any open site.
You can enable blocking of Cookie banners by following our instruction here.
To block videos from automatically playing on websites, go to Settings > Privacy and Security > Default Permissions and select Block for Autoplay.
If there’s a feature missing that you’d like to see in the browser, please make a post in the relevant category and upvote already made requests you like. For example, feature requests for Vivaldi on desktop are all here. If we see that there’s interest in a feature by many in the community, the feature is more likely to get implemented. Most of our features are implemented that way.
There are an infinite number of use cases for the browser and we know that not everyone is interested in all our features, but that’s why we’ve made the browser so customizable. Everyone can take a look what’s available, but only use what’s relevant for them and rearrange the rest. I recommend taking a look at the Toolbar Editor. And if the feature is not used the effect on the used resources should be insignificant.
Also, I can assure you that speed and stability improvements have a very high priority. The related code tends to be delicate and interconnected, though, so we’re very cautious and take the time necessary to implement changes properly.

@Tsvetkov1964 said in Bugs, Memory Leak, Multiple Websites Won't Work...:
If the browser has gained only 2.5 million users in 7 years of existence (for comparison, Brave already has 50 million), then maybe it's worth listening to user complaints? And if the number of developers is not enough to ensure the stable operation of the browser, then maybe you should think about increasing their number?
Vivaldi is built around a community to be responsive to user feedback. It interacts one-on-one with users daily toward this end. It can't make millions of changes to respond to millions of users every day, week or month, but it strives to respond while remaining true to its founding vision. It has all the staff it can afford. It is not yet profitable, but Jon spends from his own pocket to acquire and keep the talent required to keep the project growing and evolving.
And, as said by others, there are not millions in investor dollars to advertise and market the browser. There are not, and will never be, investors. The browser exists not to compete and win the browser wars and make Jon rich. It exists to fill a gap left when we lost OldeOpera, the only really configurable browser that existed when its new owners ash-canned it.
-
@Tsvetkov1964 Opera was invented and built by the same people building Vivaldi. They built it from 1994 to where it was in 2013. Then Opera and its founder parted ways, and the old Opera model that had worked so well for 19 years was abandoned, and people who loved it were left in the lurch. That's why Vivaldi was started.
The investors who had taken over Opera to make money sold it off.
I think it's a bit early to declare Vivaldi a "failure," as it gains usership and exposure daily, following the same strategies that launched Opera into the position where its investors could make money off of it.
-
@Tsvetkov1964 said in Bugs, Memory Leak, Multiple Websites Won't Work...:
@Ayespy As far as I remember, by 2015 Opera Presto was ranked fifth in the world (desktop and phone). So Vivaldi is a failure.
Interesting that you bring that up as a comparison for a successfully run business. According to the W3Counter stats on Wikipedia Opera had a market share somewhere between 3% and 5% between 2015 and 2017. Vivaldi started with well below 1M users in 2016. Now, 7 years later, Opera's market share is consistently below 1.5%, and just for reference Firefox dropped from a bit above 10% to 3%. Market share is not the same metric as number of users, but I doubt that the total number of browser users has grown by a factor of 2-4 in those years to compensate the corresponding loss in market share for those two.
So while Opera (your example for a successfully run browser company) has lost probably half its users, Vivaldi (which you call a failure) has grown by more than a factor of two. Of course, focusing solely on user base growth is not a great way to assess a browser's business success.
-
@Tsvetkov1964 Coincidentally, today, an article concerning how the "failed" Vivaldi is being released as the default browser to a few more millions of devices...
-
@Tsvetkov1964 said in Bugs, Memory Leak, Multiple Websites Won't Work...:
Car browsers don't get into the statistics, right?
Yes, they do. They appear in use stats as "Android devices." They browse the web just like a phone or a tablet.
That said, Opera was built into gaming consoles, set-top boxes, smart TVs, etc. Companies pay for this. This income helps to keep a browser-maker viable.
-
@Tsvetkov1964 You are entitled to your opinion.
The proof will be in future company performance. As it stands, there is no hint that Jon or (employee-owned) Vivaldi will be giving up, and usership simply continues to grow.
But your reports of Vivaldi's demise are premature.
-
@Tsvetkov1964 Polish, reliability and speed are always sought. That will not change.
-
@Tsvetkov1964 To this point, you see my badge "Moderator." A volunteer post. I also volunteer as a "Soprano." There are some dozens of us. We use the browser all day every day and report bugs to the devs backstage. Then we will frequently also work with them in a back-and-forth manner furnishing more data on the bug, trying out fixes, making suggestions, etc. until the bug appears fixed. We also smoke-test new features, etc. The aim is always more polish, more speed, better resource economy, more stability. We do this because we find it important and satisfying, and what's even better, we don't cost the company a nickel.
-
@Tsvetkov1964 Like the Red Queen in Alice in Wonderland said, "Now, here, you see, it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place. If you want to get somewhere else, you must run at least twice as fast as that!"
