Workspaces are not saved.
Do you have ticked on „Open at Start“—>„Last Session“ in „Settings“? If not, you should turn it on. Mine are saved with this setting.
Of course. I always tick the option and as I wrote it is a sporadic error. Sometimes open the last session and next time it does not.
-
@yesname Enabled this option and my workspaces have never been emptied on close. Your problem does not come from Vivaldi itself (an extension, maybe? Or a corrupted profile?).
-
@trit34 It happens with new installs as well and only since the workspace release. Before that, everything was fine on all computers. Since the workspace feature, it forgets sessions periodically on all computers. I think it is related to the workspaces that introduced a bug regarding to sessions.

@yesname
Hi, some user report this can happen if extensions are running in the background even when Vivaldi is closed.
Open chrome://settings/system and check the switch.Cheers, mib

Some problems with sessions, here: when opening one, all new tabs opened afterwards and from a link/bookmark will open in the main workspace, not on the current one anymore.
Plus, I can’t add a saved session to another PC by copying the BIN file in the Sessions folder.

I switched this setting off a long time ago to be sure everything is stopped when I close Vivaldi.

Just adding to the fray. The Workspaces themselves are saved between sessions, however all of the tabs are moved to the top (default) workspace when Vivaldi is opened. There is definitely a bug. This machine is Windows 11.
Yes, Last Session is checked.

Hi, there is a master bug VB-96928, it is confirmed and under investigation.
I have 12 Vivaldi installs on Windows 11 and Linux on different hardware and none of these installs have this issue.
To my knowledge nobody of the testers and developer could reproduce this in a clean profile, therefor it is hard to fix.
Please check the next update change logs for VB-96928, I hope the developer can make this feature working for all user.Cheers, mib

@michaelwrenn I also experience this bug on two machines.
Meanwhile, on a computer, I fixed the sporadic bug when the session was not restored at the start. I noticed that an old session file was stuck and deleted it using the "restore saved session" file menu. Since then the session is restored.
I am gonna try it on my other computers. The file could be corrupted. I do not know because I did not check just deleted it. (But it could be fixed in a Vivaldi update as well :)) -
@yesname
Hi, nice find, as I always open Vivaldi with one tab in the morning and close it with one tab in the evening I guess my sessions files are clean and therefor i cant reproduce it.Did you loose any tabs with restoring saved sessions?
Cheers, mib
-
@mib2berlin I have not lost any tabs since I deleted the old session file but workspaces are not saved. All tabs are opened in the default workspace but it is another story and bug.
-
@yesname I have this bug only after having opened a saved session, until I close and restart Vivaldi.
Probably unrelated, but in Chromium’s settings page, do you have disabled the option to keep processes open after closing Vivaldi?

It is enabled.

Try with disabling it (to be sure that nothing stays running), then.

WTF! This fixed the bug. Tabs are restored in their correct workspaces at the start after disabling it. Thank You all who gave me some advice.
-
@yesname And I was thinking that it was unrelated… ^^
Good to know, though!

Where even is this setting? In Vivaldi settings?
