Tweaks to autocomplete – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2921.33
-
I don't know if it is new to this snapshot, but I'm finding that autocomplete takes a long time.
Depending on what I start typing, it can take somewhere around 10-20 seconds before the autocomplete actually completes an address.
This might be because I keep a huge history file. It's currently at 590MB. I would assume that a large history file would involve a lot of typed history to sort through for autocomplete. I have other issues related to the large history file (VB-92450).

Can anyone advise me how to turn off the annoying notification that my location is being accessed every time I search on Bing? Microsoft already know where I live, and I can live with that.

@jaxtraw Turn off Geolocation for Bing in Site Settings?
At some point you must've allowed it.
I just turn off Geolocation globally, as I have zero use for it, so that what I recommend anyway. If you absolutely need geolocation on some site, you can enable it specifically. IMO Vivaldi should come with it turned off by default, but then some users would have hissy fits because they don't understand browsers actually have settings
I kind of think it's a bug - I did a quick test in Chrome/Chromium 110 and the popup only appears if the location icon is clicked. At first I thought this was some more of the usual heavy hand-holding from Chromium for poor clueless users. But since it only seems to appear in Vivaldi it's either a bug or some Chromium experiment they've forgotten to disable.
Report a bug so it doesn't make its way into Stable. Personally I don't care, I never see it anyway
Please read:
carefully and report the bug to Vivaldi bugtracker

I'm talking about quality, I hope he will test what I showed, and these bugs will not be in the final.

I already fixed the second bug myself, this one:
RSS section "lost" class name outerScrollbar
I simplified the design - Fix:
section {margin-right:calc(var(--scrollbarWidth) * -1);}
Eh, you have to do everything yourself ...
Thank you all, let's go ) -
@pathduck: I don't know how to turn it off. I've tried "geolocation" in the Privacy settings, but it comes up whether set to "Allow", "Ask" or "Block". Is there another setting somewhere?

If you write a bug report, you can be sure.
Developers don't always, permanently read here.
But bug reports are always read by developers.

@ingolftopf: I really need a volume control on pip. It's annoying having to go back to the tab every time I need to turn up the volume.
Yes, but not tonight.

No, but have you already done the reboot?
This is also a good read.

@vulture: Sorry, it is fixed on a work-branch. Not yet tested. Was a bit too eager there.

Hi, when you change any site setting you'll need to reload the page.
That setting controls it globally, when set to Block no site will even ask you to allow location - UNLESS you've already explicitly allowed it. That's why I said Site Settings, which is accessed by clicking the Site Info padlock/icon in the address bar.
My guess is it looks like this for you:
Click on the allowed setting to explicitly block it. Or, click "Reset permission" which will set it back to what you've chosen as default. I recommend you set it back to default, then choose Block in the global settings to make sure to not get disturbed by this ever again.

When I updated to vivaldi snapshot 2921.33, I find that the keyboard shortcuts broke for me.
particularly, F4 to toggle the side panels stopped working, and cmd-t to open a new tab stop working, and cmd-w to close the current tab stop working for me as well.
reverting to 2921.29 bring back those functionalities.
I hope this is the right place to file the bug report, if not, do let me know the right place to do that.
-
@pathduck: Thanks, but I don't get why the global setting seems to have no effect? I never had this problem until 2 snapshots ago...

FYI: web pages launched by extension buttons (rain drop io, darkreader, sponser block, ....) crash Vivaldi when you click the web page that that was launched.
Perhaps mistakently, I thought it was previously fixed but I just noticed it still occurs. No crash logs or any visual error. Vivaldi just disappears / closes.
Reported this back in December. VB-93964

@chas4: me too. After update to Win10x64.

@0kened0 and does it work now? Can't test it, but really hope it's fixed, it's one of the most annoying problems
