Vivaldi integrates Mastodon in its desktop browser.
-
Vivaldi recently became the first browser to have its own Mastodon instance, Vivaldi Social. Now, the new version on the desktop is the first to integrate Mastodon into the browser itself, along with the ability to pin tab groups and other UI improvements.

It's soo much easier to find settings now with the colouring grouping.

Thanks for the new version, and all the hard work!

special thanks for VB-91762

@atlemo: I was waiting for you to like that

I must say, it's rather amusing to say that adding just a web panel for one Mastodon instance is "integrating Mastodon into the browser", since by saying "integrate" it sounds like it's a whole new feature written from scratch to have it actually embedded into the browser. If anything it's a reminder that hey, you have web panels, and you can add anything to it. Mastodon instances, Pleroma instances, Twitter if you want to, or really any ol' website you'd like to access from a side panel.

F.Y.I For our 5.6 RC1 users, just an extra note. This build contains four additional fixes not found in 2867.32/34
⢠[Address bar][Crash] Error message when typing an address: additional fix (VB-93276)
⢠[Address bar] Autocomplete stops working after opening a tab with autocompleted word (VB-93132)
⢠[Onboarding] Classic selected even after clicking Basic in welcome dialog (VB-93122)
⢠[Panels] Web panel counter detection broken for some sites (VB-93433) -
Thanks for the update! Just one thing I really don't like:
if you click the arrow on the right side of the address bar, you open a list with often/last visited pages and last typed inputs in the address bar. After the update the list of last/often visited pages is gone... I really use this a lot! Can I activate it again? Only the list with typed inputs is there... -
Will you implement the same icon design for the toolbars? It could be optional, but I think it would make a nice, consistent UI.
-
@supra107 Yes, I agree. I already have a Mastadon account, so I removed the pre-installed instance and replaced it with the one I'm subscribed to. Just another web panel.

I'm not much of a Mastodon fan, but I think some kind of enhanced social media integration is a smart business move. Brave has a built-in Jitsi functionality, which I think is brilliant marketing. I frankly think V should do the same.

It's funny how such a little touch lightens up the whole page. Definitely an improvement.

@paul1149 Settings, Appearance:
Use Monochrome Settings IconThis works far better with different themes. I am still struggling to find categories after they have been rearranged. I expect I will adjust to it after a few more weeks.

I'm using Linux KDE and I can't display the KDE window options on the top border.
Pin a window, moving it to another desktop, etc. -
You guys just made address bar autocomplete even worse than it was. I have "Always Prefer Bookmarks" disabled but autocomplete is dumping in bookmarks anyway.
When I type a URL that wants to autocomplete to something else, if I remove the autocomplete portion but just happen to leave a forward slash on the end of the URL, it fills in the autocomplete anyway after I hit enter. This is a nightmare.

This is. Really ridiculous. You have weird priorities there.
You introduced serious bug with v5.5 - >"Missing god damn window borders" on Windows 10 and Linux KDE with Wayland. Some guy here pointed you with code which introduces it. New version landed and absolutely no progress with it after almost 3 months, rather focusing on some useless things.
Vivaldi is the only software ever which has regular problems with such basic and important things which window borders are.
There are people which doesn't work with one maximized window at time, but with dozens applications which have white background.
So now, wait again 2,3 months until v5.7 lands and hoping that you will not ignore this serious bug.
Sadly, after so many years using only one browser is time to move away and use other browser which "just works".

@nekomajin: Maybe, maybe not

Just found out, that address bar history is wiped after update. And some old search terms are duplicated and prefixed with "d1"...
