Solved 'Unsupported Browser': Did you know Protonmail cannot be accessed as webmail from Vivaldi :-(
-
Hello,
I have raised the issue with ProtonMail, but I thought it would be useful you know too: ProtonMail have introduced browser restrictions for their webmail app:
https://proton.me/support/recommended-browsersand it doesn't include Vivaldi!
Thanks,
Richard. -
Hi all - Thanks for your help;
I was away for a couple of days and getting back to this issue I was checking it out to see if the issue was still there, and re-opening the protonmail.com site then going to Sign In and this time it auto-logged me in without the Unsupported Browser message ...
I didn't have dev tools open at the time so I don't know exactly what happened / what was different ..
Anyway all good now!Richard.

This is what you see:
-
@richardhmatthews44 I just tried and was able to successfully sign into an account with Vivaldi
5.5.2805.50
.Do you use any privacy extensions that alter your User-Agent String?
DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials
andTrace
are common culprits. Vivaldi identifies as Chrome by default, so most sites don't even know you aren't just using Chrome.You can try using a guest profile to see if the site works without the affects of extensions and settings. https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/tabs/guest-view/

@richardhmatthews44
Hi, some pages need at least Chromium 107 and the latest Vivaldi is 106. Wait for some days until Vivaldi 5.6 is ready, it use Chromium 108.Cheers, mib
EDIT: @nomadic was faster. -
Works here: 5.5.2805.48 (Stable channel) (64-Bit)
-
@nomadic I use Trace and also Protonmail without problems. In Trace you just have to be a little careful with the configuration, activating all the protections will break many pages and possibly also Protonmail (because spoof the header, UA and system, among others)
But in this case it's enough to pause Trace or whitelist the page in it. -
@richardhmatthews44 @mib2berlin Related request (as I don't expect a native UA switcher and dev tool is not comfortable for this matter):

@richardhmatthews44 Which Vivaldi version did you use?
Do you use extensions for privacy which change the browser user-agent? -
I use Proton and it works fine for me in Vivaldi.
-
Proton works for me with 5.5.2805.50 Stable, 5.6.2867.36 Stable and 5.6.2867.32 Snapshot.

It says PM will work with most browsers. You probably need to update V; it works here with no problem. Their lack of a V recommendation is more a reflection on V using a unique installation token that phones home, if I understand that correctly, And if I do have that correct, I think it's a mistake that costs a great browser much good will among the tech community.

Thanks all for your help
@DoctorG (and others) I am using a pretty recent version:
5.5.2805.50 (Stable channel) (32-bit)
@nomadic I tried using a guest profile and that worked no problem ...
So I switched off all my extensions (
Adblock for Youtube
GNOME Shell integration
Privacy Badger
) and cleared site data and tried logging in again ... And got the same 'Unsupported Browser' message hehe -
@richardhmatthews44 Please update to the latest version (which at the moment is 5.6.2867.36). If it worked in the guest window, it means that the problem might be with your profile. Try restarting the browser after switching off all extensions and try again.
-
so I tried closing Vivaldi and restarting; unpinned the PM's tab and closed it; 'clear site data' from dev mode;
when I try and Sign In again Unsupported Browser ...
I suppose PM must be recording something of the login / authorization somewhere but where?
Thanks for all your help! -
@pafflick Thanks - I have updated to
5.6.2867.36 (Stable channel) (32-bit
restarted, went to protonmail.com and Sign in,
and I can see it begins an Authorisation process (auto-sign-in without me entering anything, several redirects) -- then it redirects to the Unsupported Browser message again..
(No extensions enabled) -
@richardhmatthews44 Clear cache+cookies first.
https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/troubleshoot/troubleshooting-issues/#Delete_Browsing_DataThen Open Dev.tools (F12) before signing in, click the network tab, reload the signin page and log in. Do you see any red failing/blocked requests?
Also check what this returns as your UA:
