BBC Website problems
-
Recently, I keep getting errors message like this, after I've been on the BBC website for a few minutes, browsing the various categories, not just the news section.
I'm usually able to browse the site normally until the error. Even pages that have previously opened, give the error.
I have to close the browser down and start again. Other browsers don't show the error.
Vivaldi version: 5.5.2805.42 (Stable channel) (64-bit)Edit: If I leave the page untouched for a few minutes, the page goes back to normal after its been refreshed.
Error: 410 Gone
Your client has made a request for a BBC domain that is no longer hosted on Akamai, but the request was sent to an Akamai IP address. This suggests your client is using a very out-of-date DNS response, or one that has been altered. If you're using VPN software or similar, try disabling it and / or contact your VPN provider's technical support.

FWIW, I visit the BBC news site at least several times a day with Vivaldi 5.5.2805.42 (Stable) and have yet to see the problem. I'm in the US, so that may have a bearing on what is auto-served to you if you're in a different locale. I do know that usually a while after I first visit the site, a large pop-up appears offering me the opportunity to sign in or start an account (which pop-up I always close via its corner "x")... perhaps something like that is triggering a problem in your situation.

@TD4 , no such problems here from Spain, same Windows last Vivaldi stable, using Vivaldi blocker and JShelter extension. Using Quad9 DNS and DNScrypt-
Anyway, try in a Guest profile in Vivaldi.
Clear Cache and Serviceworkers. -
Thanks for the replies.
I didn't have a problem either, until I rolled back my system to one created in August and updated Vivaldi.I cleaned the cache/cookies when I close the browser.
I've also tried a clean profile and still get the error after a minutes or so.
I'm in the UK and using a VPN with a UK IP number. But I don't think the VPN is the problem, as FireFox doesn't give the error.
Amazon UK fails to load item details too. Again, FireFox, Edge work fine. Chrome doesn't.Error: 410 Gone

Looks like a pretty common issue all around for VPN users.

@Pathduck . I just connected with no problem using ProtonVPN (server in Japan). There must be other causes.

Hi, I tested the page for about ten minutes over ExpressVPN located in London, all fine.
Cheers, mib

Thank you all for the help.
I've done more testing this morning using Vivaldi and FireFox (using NordVPN).
Both now give the error message after a few minutes and both then allow access again after a wait period.
FireFox then blocks the site again after a few minutes, but Vivaldi doesn't block again and allows free access until I close the browser down. -

FireFox then blocks the site again after a few minutes, but Vivaldi doesn't block again and allows free access until I close the browser down. That sounds a lot like some kind of latency issue involving access/auto-updating for part of the BBC site or the sub-sites called out in its javascript. Given that you've observed some form of the problem occurring with Vivaldi, Chrome, and Firefox, it would seem to point to something involving your specific VPN, the VPN exit-portal location you're trying to employ with the VPN, or your system.
