Vivaldi won't start
-
Today my Vivaldi won't start. It creates three lines in the Taskmanager, and that's it. After a little processor and RAM activity, it all dies off and goes to rest. The disk aktivity returns to zero. Nothing happens. Same thing all over again after ending the processes. Tried some tips I found: vivaldi.exe --user-data-dir="%TEMP%\VIVI-TEST" Open "%LOCALAPPDATA%\Vivaldi\User Data\Default" in Explorer Delete the files starting with Last ... Delete the files starting with Current ... Vivaldi still won't start. Attachments:

Not sure if it applies to your situation, but today after downloading javascript extension ScriptSafe". Came back a few hours later and my Vivaldi won't open. Searching found several people had problems opening Viv after downloading javacript limiting extensions. Not sure but started deleting some files related to Safescript managed to restart Viv deleted ScriptSafe and voila….everything is back to normal....Hope this helps...Great extension just too much for Vivaldi i guess...

If you think about it, this should not be surprising. Vivaldi is build largely of javascript. You start blocking scripts, you're going to block it from running.

Same thing happens to me. After importing (successfully) bookmarks from Opera 12x, Opera latest, and Firefox, and using it without issues, upon closing Vivaldi, and then trying to open it again a while later, VIVALDI fails to start, no matter how many times I try. This happens on either version, 32bit or 64bit, and both final and snapshot versions. In fact upon encountering this same problem with 64bit Vivaldi, I uninstalled it and installed the 32bit (recommended by Vivaldi) version. SAME PROBLEM after importing bookmarks.
If I manually remove the bookmark file (140mb) from the User folder, then Vivaldi DOES start, so therein lies the problem. And I hadn't even imported my CHROME bookmarks (a big 400 mb file) yet.
But, what good is a browser that cannot handle a large amount of bookmarks? That was one of the major selling points that drew me to Vivaldi in the first place, when I read that the project leader was the man behind Opera 12x and that it had all of the sophisticated features one could possibly want. A nice bookmark manager was one of the main attractions for me, and while it worked initially, then upon closing the program it never starts again. Big FAIL in this regard.
A real pity because the browser is awesome. I was a big fan of Opera 12x and Vivaldi is all that and more, faster, more beautiful, etc. BUT this bug is a major no no, and it cannot become my default browser with this serious problem. I hope developers do something about it. -
Hi, I think there is something wrong with these bookmark files or with the Vivaldi import process.
Vivaldi store bookmarks in a simple text file (kind of) and a text file with 140 MB is 100000 of pages I guess. One DIN A4 page is 5 KB.
How do you import your bookmarks?
Check export as HTML from chrome for example and import this in Vivaldi.
It is only guessing but there is something wrong.Cheers, mib

Start page:
"Start" - "Bookmarks" - "History" - (by the way, "DOWNLOADS" should be here also, not just that smaller side panel)Click on Bookmarks, then import, then just choose the browser to import from. That is the default way Vivaldi provides, that I used to import everything from all other browsers EXCEPT Chrome (since this is my main browser with a larger 400mb bookmark file, wanted to thouroughly test Vivaldi first, well aware that it's still a work in progress, before moving my main bookmarks).
The thing is the imports went absolutely fine, everything was there neatly, it was searchable, no problems AT ALL. It's only AFTER closing the browser, that it fails to ever start again. Shows some Vivaldi processes in Task Manager, but then they disappear and nothing happens. Vivaldi doesn't open.
By the way, I have deleted ALL extensions, so there are NO extensions at all.
Haven't tried importing from an html file, but this default way Vivaldi provides should be just as fine, except it's not. Could developers please take a look at the problem? -

In the meantime you can access bigger download site via
vivaldi://downloads
