This initializes the resource so that no dirty bits from recycled memory is present in the new resource. use_temporary_buffer_in_texture_to_texture_copy: https://crbug.com/dawn/42: Split texture-to-texture copy into two copies: copy from source texture into a temporary buffer, and copy from the temporary buffer into the destination texture when copying between compressed textures that don't have block-aligned sizes. This workaround is enabled by default on all Vulkan drivers to solve an issue in the Vulkan SPEC about the texture-to-texture copies with compressed formats. See #1005 (https://github.com/KhronosGroup/Vulkan-Docs/issues/1005) for more details. vulkan_use_d32s8: https://crbug.com/dawn/286: Vulkan mandates support of either D32_FLOAT_S8 or D24_UNORM_S8. When available the backend will use D32S8 (toggle to on) but setting the toggle to off will make it use the D24S8 format when possible. vulkan_use_s8: https://crbug.com/dawn/666: Vulkan has a pure stencil8 format but it is not universally available. When this toggle is on, the backend will use S8 for the stencil8 format, otherwise it will fallback to D32S8 or D24S8. disallow_unsafe_apis: http://crbug.com/1138528: Produces validation errors on API entry points or parameter combinations that aren't considered secure yet. use_vulkan_zero_initialize_workgroup_memory_extension: https://crbug.com/dawn/1302: Initialize workgroup memory with OpConstantNull on Vulkan when the Vulkan extension VK_KHR_zero_initialize_workgroup_memory is supported. [WebGPU Forced Toggles - enabled] disallow_spirv: https://crbug.com/1214923: Disallow usage of SPIR-V completely so that only WGSL is used for shader modules. For some reason it doesn't let me to post the logs. As Yukora mentioned, simply clicking the chat or opening the smiley gallery freezes the panel, makes it basically unusable. No other app causes anything similar. And only within the web panel, opening the app in a normal tab does not cause any issues. It's weird.

@DoctorG Sorry came here from a google search but I saw this issue on windows forum too (https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/49161/100-cpu-usage-on-web-panel-use-whatsapp-web)
Like I mentioned - tried with no extensions, still reproduces

Since a couple of updates ago, I have noticed that when using WhatsApp in the Vivaldi sidebar it is extremely slow, even Vivaldi itself is extremely slow.
I have a Windows 11 computer, with Core i7 8 core processor and 16 GB RAM, SSD 480, all applications run fine but Vivaldi is slow, I think every time they put more features they make it slow, I even re-downloaded Opera to try WhatsApp in its panel and it works perfectly.I uninstalled Sophos antivirus to see if it was the fault of the antivirus, but the problem persists, I do not know what the problem is or if they already realized how slow is Vivaldi lately.

I've been experiencing the same problem on macOS; it seems weird that it's much faster when I try WA Web in a new tab. Even opening the context menu for a message (that thing that lets you reply or delete etc.) takes up to 100% of my CPU in the panel, whereas only a maximum of 25% on a tab. My Mac may be extremely sluggish, but this is still rather ridiculous.

@nellmf
Hi, the WhatsApp issue is known, there are some threads about.
I have no idea if one had report it to the bug tracker.https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/78815/whatsapp-web-on-web-panel-became-extremely-slow
Vivaldi run as fast as Chrome, Edge on my systems (Windows 11 Pro, Linux), except of the startup time but this is because of the second UI layer and will not change. My system specs are in my signature.
Did you restart Windows after removing Sophos?
Cheers, mib

@Yukora I can not help here with issue Window hardware config and drivers are different from Linux. Please aks at https://forum.vivaldi.net/category/32/vivaldi-for-windows
-
@crossLain Intel HD 520 is a older GPU?
Do you use any driver optimisation?
Have you updated Intel firmware and microcode?
Is the GPU driver from Intel?
Do you use an settings in vivaldi://flags?
Do you use command line parameters with Vivaldi?
Had you tried to update codecs for Vivaldi ins shell with
sudo /opt/vivaldi/update-ffmpeg
I can no really tell what it is. Perhaps the Mesa driver.
Sorry, you should wait until a Fedora Vivaldi user can tell more.

@Artusundschnitzi Which graphics card/GPU do you have?
Which Vivaldi version?
Updated BIOS and firmware?
Latest GPU driver from chipset/GPU card manufacturer' website? -

Perhaps there is some trouble with GPU driver and animated UI.
Try this for a fix: In Settings → Appearance → disable Used Animation for UI, restart Vivaldi. -
@Artusundschnitzi Intel CPU/GPU?

This is still not resolved, whatsapp web is unusable in a web panel
Vivaldi 5.4.2753.40
PC, Windows 10
extensions: Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin, Twitch Adblock, LastPass
No special antivirus installed
GPU up to dateDisabling all extensions and restarting Vivaldi did not help, still stutters and freezes so probably not related to extensions
(Also happening on Linux)

@Yukora said in 100% Cpu usage on web panel use (whatsapp web):
Disabling all extensions
Disabling is not the same as "using no extension".
Check in Guest profile to see if a extension or Vivaldi Blocker causes this.Sometimes older hardware causes high CPU usage.
-
@DoctorG Still stutters even in a new profile - also freezes when writing messages
-
Is not extremly slow for me, but slower.
I do not know if Meta has changed something in web ui of Whatsapp the last weeks since last Vivaldi 5.4 update. -
I have the same problem, exactly the same. I love Vivaldi, it is my daily browser, but I also use WhatsApp as a business tool, and it has brought me many problems, to the point of having to reinstall Opera to be able to work quietly, it's a shame, Vivaldi has come to less in these last updates, resource consumption is excessively high and every time they add more features that make it terribly slow, now not even with a Dell computer with 16 GB of RAM, Core i7 processor 11 generation, nor with SSD 480 GB is possible to see speed, it is simply a turtle with a sea of latency, just horrible to use. What a disgrace.
