Solved Privacy Statistics - A Privacy Breach?

Click on the privacy badge and open the Privacy Statistics dialog to see a list of some sites that you have been visiting.
Might this be an issue for someone sharing a computer?

yes, may be.
Unfortunately you have to reset by button in Statistic popup.Deleting by "Delete Browser Data" fails.
Bug: VB-87889 "Delete privacy statistics when deleting all browsing data" - Confirmed. -
@DoctorG Any suggestions on how to improve this? Obviously, if someone shares a computer, anyone who was determined could find private information.
vivaldi://settings/content/zoomLevels
is a bit harder to find, but this one seems to be easy to discover by accident. -
@Pesala Well, don't share your computer
Or if you do, use different user accounts, not that hard to set up

Deleting browser data after closing browser could solve this, but such feature is missing in Vivaldi.
Or some sort of Kiosk mode like older Opera Presto had.
-
@Pathduck I live alone, and Vivaldi is installed as a Standalone version on an encrypted drive. Even if my computer gets stolen, private information such as email is (I think) safe from crooks.
I reported the issue for the benefit of others who may be less aware of what information is saved by Vivaldi as they browse.
Vivaldi is proud of its privacy status, so we should always be on the lookout for ways to improve it without stripping useful features.
-
@Pesala Yes, it is a good idea to tell users the traps not having all privacy they wish and think about.
-
Would clearing the cache, history, and form data not solve that problem?
-
@Streptococcus The problem is not that Vivaldi stores the data, but that it is rather too easy to discover by accident.
For example, suppose a guy is shopping online for an engagement ring. His GF, with whom he lives, opens the privacy statistics dialog out of curiosity and sees a well-known jewellery site in the history of sites where ads have been blocked.
-
@Pesala
I do not believe that uBlock Origin records sites whose ads have been blocked, just how many items in a subscription list have been used. Maybe the solution is to use uBlock Origin rather than Vivaldi to block ads (which is what I am doing). -

I would agree with the latter; use the tried and tested user account management features of the OS to protect the data.

Exactly what I'd recommend.

Everyone is missing the point here. It is just shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted.
I am sure that many who share a PC with family members already use separate user account.
This is a privacy issue for those who do not.
