You won’t be able to run Windows 11 without a webcam in 2023
-
Microsoft just keeps coming up with more and more requirements for devices that will run Windows 11.
After learning that Bluetooth and Precision Touchpad are a must, Microsoft reveals that webcams will also be a must, soon.
Not just any camera will cut it, as the tech company says, it must be an HD device, with Auto-Exposure.
Another specification to keep in mind is that the webcam needs to have a 1280x720 resolution, with more than 15 FPS.Full article https://windowsreport.com/windows-11-webcam-mandatory/
(I think that with a piece of duct tape covering the camara, it will work better

@Catweazle
Hi, they never get out of ideas to "watch" the user but I hope some coder solve this like they do for TPM 2, older CPU and to have a Microsoft account to even install Windows 11.
I have an old PC missing all this restrictions but run Windows 11 just fine.Cheers, mib

@Catweazle That seems like more of a requirement for hardware venders than for users. The article doesn't make any distinction about that, but it sounds intentionally misleading.
Looking at the document that they mention in the article, it is pretty clear that it is guidelines for the actual hardware manufacturers. And to the main point, cameras are even listed as optional...
Edit: Lower down it does say that it will change to be required on everything except desktop PCs, but that just means new devices will have to have a camera, not that you need to have a camera to use Windows 11. They could add that requirement in the future, but that document is not saying that.

@nomadic , maybe, but anyway covering the webcam, at least if not used, isn't a bad idea. M$ is sooo thrustworthy respect privacy

I agree with Nomadic, it seems like a requirement list for OEM manufacturers and not necessarily for regular users. Many people buy their laptops with Windows pre-installed so I'm guessing this is like some quality requirements to be allowed to bundle it with Windows11 as well.
But yeah it does seem like an absurd requirement. I was a Win7 holdout for a very long time, and I'm guessing probably the same for Win10. In some years I'll be one of those users who complain Vivaldi is broken because the root certs have all expired since the OS has been out of support for years
I also notice that PDF is a year old, and linked directly, so we have no clue about the context it was written for. The official specs have no mention of a webcam requirement unless for specific features:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-11-specificationsEdit, seems the PDF is from here:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows-hardware/design/minimum/minimum-hardware-requirements-overview"The goal of this specification is to enable OEMs, ODMs, Silicon, and other component vendors to make early design decisions for devices and computers that will run Windows."

You can run Linux without monitor
