Periodic Reload not working
-
ok update #2 - sort of work around
I decided to duplicate the tables (SHIFT-SELECT, right click, Duplicate nn Tabs) and then see if those duplicated tabs of the same urls would see the Reload functionality work properly.
And it has, but kind of annoying to then go through and remove the original tabs that have now been duplicated and delete them.
But at least I am back with Reloading tabs and able to Tile / Un-tile them too all the while with Reloading working as one would expect.
I don't really know what caused this, but it seems a useful work around and one worth sharing
-
ok Update #3 - managed to replicate the problem again
Turned back on the "On Start Up" setting use this list of urls (which I populated with the Use Current Tabs button)
Shut Down the browser, restarted the browser
I now can not get any of the tabs in the list of explicit start up tabs to function as per the expected Reload feature
Back onto the annoying work around, but hopefully this has provided some quite specific scenarios to investigate for a bug fix

@SilverBullAUS
Hi, the report VB-89651 was marked as Resolved, can not reproduce.
With all your information you may like to report it to the bug tracker again.For information on how to report a bug, see this URL: https://vvld.in/how-to-report-bugs
Once that is done, please share the bug number (beginning with VB-). Thanks.
On the form, you can add your email address. Once submitted, you'll get a confirmation. You can reply to this with any logs or further info.Cheers, mib

@mib2berlin if I get around to it - but anyone feel free to run with my findings

@SilverBullAUS
Do you have lazy loading enabled (Default) in Settings > General?How do you format the tab open list or can I open a folder with several tabs?
Cheers, mib
EDIT: Error of reasoning on my part, if you close a tab periodic reload is canceled. -
@mib2berlin I have tried in combinations of Lazy Loading on / off and also by checking and unchecking the Always Load pinned Tabs
I now have a new symptom in the last 30 minutes, where every tab I activate (click onto) or any of the ones in the same related tile group seem to be auto-refreshing every after every page load ??? which of course renders the whole browser useless to do anything with at all
in your mind picture the Onload() event recursively calling itself upon completion
Work Around for the latest little discovery:
I had to un-tile all tabs in my tab list even though they were in multiple different tile groups
I also chose to un-stack 6 tabs that I had grouped and then also tiled that group and the lowest stacked level (I actually think this was the catalyst for things to go haywire)So I seem to be back with a long list of tabs, some of which are tiled and no apparent problems, or at least the knowledge of how to work around them. So yeah it appears to eb a little buggy, but the features are worth it to live with the work arounds at the moment

@SilverBullAUS
Load tab on click is lazy loading, I am not sure if changing the settings need a restart of Vivaldi.Cheers, mib
-
@SilverBullAUS
Can you add more information about your workflow, please.
If one report the bug I can confirm but I cant confirm my own report.
So I rarely use tiling, tab stacks, pinning and never periodic reload.
I use F5.Cheers, mib

@mib2berlin ok so I am wanting to use vivaldi for stockmarket investing, so I defintely will be using tiled groups and scheduled Reload
- open a series of tabs with varying urls
- SHIFT, LEFT CLICK mouse to select the group of tabs to be tiled into a "Tile Group"
- with the highlighted outlining shown over the chosen tabs, RIGHT CLICK the group and select Tile nn Tabs
- with the highlighted outlining shown over the chosen tabs, RIGHT CLICK the group and select Reload and the desired duration say 1 minute, 2 minutes etc etc
to turn of auto-Reloads
- select the chosen Tabs with SHIFT, LEFT MOUSE click
- with highlighting showing, RIGHT CLICK the group and select Reload and un-check the duration showing the tick
to un-tile a group or some members of a group
- select the chosen Tabs with SHIFT, LEFT MOUSE click
- with highlighting showing, RIGHT CLICK the group and select Un-Tile nn Tabs
ran into bugs / issues when:
scenario A
- performed a Tiled Group of the lower level Stacked Group of tabs
- turned on auto-Reload (as per above steps) but down at the lower level of the group being the stacked Tabs
scenario B
- when the browser setting for On Startup load pages was set to "Start Up with specific pages" and those pages were a list of already loaded tabs, that were themselves populates by using the "Use Current Tabs" option
Work Arounds:
scenario A workaround:
- un-tile all tabs in the group(s)
- select the chosen Tabs with SHIFT, LEFT MOUSE click
- with highlighting showing, RIGHT CLICK the group and select Duplicate Tabs
- manually delete all of the original tabs that would still not auto-Reload
- setup auto-Reload and Tile groups with the newly Duplicated tabs
scenario B workaround:
- live without the On Startup setting for specific tabs and rather choose the setting for "Start UP - with Last Session"
either scenario:
keep Lazy Load Restored Tabs checked = true
keep Always Load Pinned Tabs checked = trueI hope that helps

@SilverBullAUS
This is a detailed description, some questions:- With tab group you mean stack (In German it is called Gruppe)?
- What do you mean with lower level, stack in a stack?
Maybe I am not the right user to test this, no stack experience.
This is my setup so far:Cheers, mib
-
Tab Group being a Group of Tabs generically, not a Vivaldi function as such
that image is my tab list in the left pane of my browser window
they are currently just a logical grouping of tabs
I have however, done RIGHT CLICK, selected Tile 8 Tabs to have a display with 8 tiled tab windows. I refer to that as a Tile Group
if I also preferred to I could RIGHT CLICK, select Stack 8 Selected Tabs and that would create a child grouping of those Tabs one layer down (that is my lowest level in the example)
if I then go down to that lower level and select all of the 8 Tabs again with the intention to do RIGHT CLICK, Tile 8 Tabs then Vlvaldi will allow that and do the same tiling of the Tabs.However, what I found when I Tiled the lower level group of Stacked Tabs, they all started to auto-refresh immediately upon completing their load, so it was like a loop of perpetual refreshing.
hence the work arounds above, and choosing to live without the Stacked Tabs feature.
-
Tiling of Tabs is important to me, because I want to achieve this effect
this particular example of a group of tabs I wanted to tile, only included 8 windows (tabs), I have other groupings of other tabs some more and some less than 8 tab windows.
Tiling has nothing to do with the auto Reload feature, which I simply expect that this feature should work on a Tab whether is it part of a Tiled Group, a Stacked Group or a stand alone Tab in the tab list, but that is of course where I started to have re-load / refresh issues
-
@SilverBullAUS
I understand your use case, only strruggle about tab list.
For me these are "Some Tabs", selected > create stack.
Then you can periodic reload the whole stack or one of the tabs in this stack.
This is my setup, two tab stacks.
One with 4 tiled tabs all periodic reload.
Second stack with two tiled tabs only one periodic reload.This is working fine, so where is the bug?
I donΒ΄t want to waist you time not mine, is this may a feature request?
I am not native english, so the laguage barrier can kick in here, too.Cheers, mib

@mib2berlin
I am using Tab Group in a natural language sense (sorry for any confusion)this is the standard RIGHT-CLICK options that I am using when wanting to action a "group of highlighted tabs"
either:
- Stack 8 Selected Tabs
- Tile 8 Tabs
To clarify one of the bugs I experience is when I first Stack the tabs and then go back in and highlight the same group of stacked tabs and do the option to Tile 8 Tabs (down at the lowest level, being the stacked list of tabs)
Then add to the mis auto-Reload and things for me start to go haywire
-
@SilverBullAUS
OK, there are several ways to stack and the tile but as result we have 8 tabs tiled in a grid.
If I select all tabs again, then set the time all tabs are counting down.
This should be the expected result.https://drive.google.com/file/d/108-8g75xJJj-6QlgIP92MpebpHSWUvef/view?usp=sharing
