HTML5 MP4 (H.264/AAC) video in Vivaldi for Linux
-
I am using the Vivaldi Version 5.3 on Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia Xfce (64 Bit) , but the videos will not play. I tried many things.... if there is a fix for it I would be happy, it worked with with Vivaldi Version 3.7 without problems.
so far I am happy with the browser and recommend it on my german website

@thomas1madrid Please share a link of that kind of video that doesn't play.
-
@thomas1madrid Mint 18.3 has reached End of Life in April, so you should upgrade. Also it is based on glibc=2.23 while Vivaldi needs glibc>=2.27 to offer you those proprietary codecs.
-
basically every video
-
@npro wow fast reply here, maybe it is better to go back to Firefox, my old notebook can not handle "better" Linux Versions ...
-
@npro I just installed the Firefox Browser and all the videos are running! no need to change my Mint 18.3, it is sad because the Vivaldi browser is "lighter" and so better for me...
-
@thomas1madrid everyone makes his/her choices, if you want to stay with an unsupported and insecure in the long run OS everything is fine with your decision.

For my [in]sanity, please would you explain this?

That video is running here without complications. I'm on bitchute too.
Because of newer Linux versions or other newer distros you'll find some support for solutions here in this forum. @guigirl started already. I'm not familiar with what distros are running on old laptops.

Wprks for me with 5.3.2679.55 Mint 20.3 Una.
-
@DoctorG Main problem is his old laptop
-
@thomas1madrid Just to check codec pack version Vivaldi uses.
Please show me version numbers of installed ffmpeg.- Open shell
- Run this command:
sudo su for i in $(find / -name "libffmpeg*so*") ; do echo -n "$i "; grep -aom1 'N-[0-9]\+-' $i | cut -d- -f2; done
My Mint 20 gives me:
test@minze:~$ for i in $(find / -name "libffmpeg*so*") ; do echo -n "$i "; grep -aom1 'N-[0-9]\+-' $i | cut -d- -f2; done /home/test/.local/lib/vivaldi/media-codecs-af22e598ffc8d4e0dd4526d6a28cf918a7f56ef65be416f698bcabb2952f8879/libffmpeg.so 107578 /var/opt/vivaldi/media-codecs-a1beee1f159f099f37443f8b082f25f1105da8961e5b60a8b0787d47ed6f49dd/libffmpeg.so 107578 /var/opt/vivaldi-snapshot/media-codecs-af22e598ffc8d4e0dd4526d6a28cf918a7f56ef65be416f698bcabb2952f8879/libffmpeg.so 107578 /opt/vivaldi/lib/libffmpeg.so 107578 /opt/vivaldi-snapshot/lib/libffmpeg.so 107578 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libffmpegthumbnailer.so.4.11.0 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libffmpegthumbnailer.so.4
Perhaps update ffmpeg Vivaldi uses:
sudo /opt/vivaldi/update-ffmpeg --system
Just for debugging media data:
- Open video only with Vivaldi in single tab (tab 1)
- Open page
vivaldi://media-internals
in next tab (Tab 2)
Play video in Tab 1
Switch to Tab 2
Copy media player data into clipboard
Paste here with </> button
Start vivaldi in shell to get any error message:
vivaldi https://www.bitchute.com/video/Bj2XB8VoUDrv/ &
Copy complete output
Paste with </> button here -

No, pending further info from OP, atm that is not a known fact.
What is a known fact is that OP is using an obsolete distro which does not support V. This post amply explains.

My Mint 20
Sorry, but that's irrelevant. OP for some unknown reason is only using Mint 18.3. That obsolete Mint IS the root cause.

What is a known fact is that OP is using an obsolete distro which does not support V. This post amply explains.Thank you for correcting that! I had hastily assumed that his laptop does not tolerate newer OPs.
-
@guigirl Ah, ok, glibc-incompat, the we can not do anything.

Yes i know, & once the OP explains, it may be that you're correct. Until then however, we do not know if they have an old-HW problem or not, but we do know they have an obsolete-OS problem.
