Text input loosing focus after switching tabs (Google Docs)

@Pathduck Oh alright, thanks!

This is happening for me too, on Linux.
Vivaldi 2.8.1664.44 (Stable channel) (64-bit)

Hi! I have the same issue on Windows10, Vivaldi 2.9.1705, and in MacOS Catalina, with the latest Vivaldi release. It happens even just by mouse-clicking into another tab and doing any input in it.
-
I am facing the same issue with regards to losing input focus.
This is a huge productivity drain when working with Google Docs (which is what my company uses).
Every time I switch between tabs I have to click (with the mouse) into the Google doc to get back focus. Thus when copy/pasting text, or trying to continue writing in the doc I have to reach to the mouse. This is not an issue with Chrome or Edge (the newest one). Thus not a WebKit issue per se.
Here are my details:
Vivaldi 2.9.1705.41 (Stable channel) (64-bit)
Revision ce637bfd730e6b2e549bf8def38f849e1a26bd3b
OS Windows 10 OS Version 1909 (Build 18363.657)
JavaScript V8 7.8.279.23
Flash (Disabled)
User Agent Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/78.0.3904.99 Safari/537.36 Vivaldi/2.9.1705.41 -
@Gwen-Dragon : Please check again with the newest version. This issue is easy to replicate on my machine. 100% of the time.
-
I can also reproduce this 100 % of the time. If I Ctrl+Tab to a different tab and back to Docs I can't write unless I click in the document. If I Ctrl+Tab to a different tab and back to Docs (so that I can't write as per the above) and then Ctrl+Tab to a different tab and back to Docs again (without clicking in Docs the first time), I can now suddenly write in Docs without having to click first.
Vivaldi: Snapshot 2.12.1838.3 64-bit
OS: Windows 10 1909
It also happens on my Linux laptop, although I don't know which Vivaldi version is running there (PostgreSQL bricked the laptop last week so I can't check at the moment).

This problem persists. Excitedly I have completely switched over to Vivaldi. Love this browser. But as I got down to work in Google Docs I discovered that I had a big problem. As switch back and forth from different tabs, when I switch back to my Google doc tabs, the cursor is usually not active (blinking). I'm used to the cursor being active when I switch to a Google doc tab (like in Chrome), so I I just start typing or pasting and this results in information going into the address bar. Every now and then the cursor is blinking when I click on Google doc tab and I can just start typing like usual (like Chrome), but MOST of the time the cursor is frozen and anything typed goes into the address bar. I believe this is the same problem as described above or very similar.
Does anyone know if there's an update. Will it be fixed soon? I do a lot of work in Google Docs so this is kinda driving me crazy.

@Mieszkopin I am having this same problem with Google Docs tabs. I'm often editing 2 or 3 Google Docs at once and will tab back and forth between them. Most of the time when I switch to the tab of a Google Doc the cursor is a solid black line. If I start typing nothing shows up in the document. I have to use the mouse to click on the solid cursor. It then starts blinking and I can type. Every now and then when I switch to a Google Doc tab the cursor is blinking and I can type, but MOST of the time I can't.
I'm using Vivaldi 3.0.1874.38 (Stable channel) (64-bit) on Arch Linux.

This is a good question that I haven't found the answer for yet.
I switch back and forth in my tabs while working in Google Docs and having to click in the document to resume typing from where the cursor is sitting is driving me a little crazy. Why does Chrome allow you to continue typing where you left off, but Vivaldi requires you to click into the cursor to resume?
Is there a solution?

@jimfbk I set up Vivaldi and made the switch, and then discovered this problem in Google Docs. I'm trying to stick with Vivaldi for now. I'd like to know if they're working on fixing this. But for productivity sake, I may have to switch browsers.

@Gwen-Dragon Thank you for this info. I do appreciate your reply. I'm sorry I'm new here and I may not fully understand... I think you're letting me know that it is a known bug and that we can expect it to be corrected sometime but likely not in 3.1?
-
@Gwen-Dragon Thanks so much for this update. I appreciate it.
For those of us who do a lot of work with Google Docs, this loss of input focus is a big deal. It's very hard to re-train myself to click on the cursor with the mouse or hit Esc (working solutions). I just flip tabs and start typing.
I love how Vivaldi is handling everything else. This is my only problem.

I too am having this problem. I love Vivaldi in every other way, but just started a job that requires nearly all work to be done on Google Docs, so this is becoming a big problem for me. While we await the solution from the developers, does anyone know of a temporary fix for the meantime?
-
@nannerl I don't use Google Docs. Does the problem happen if you switch to another window?
-
@CaptainKen I've been suffering with this the past several weeks. I thought it was a bug with Google Docs for awhile, but just found this thread and realized that it was only occurring while I was using Vivaldi. I just updated to the latest Stable and the problem still persists. As @Komposten described, the cursor loses focus with every other tab switch. It's been a massive pain, esp. when I switch back to my Doc and hit CTRL+left to shift my place in the line I'm writing and the browser instead loads the previous page.
Any word on when a fix can be expected?

@Pesala I just tested, and the problem does not occur when I switch between windows, only when I switch between tabs.
-
@kendalf That's good. So you have a temporary fix.
Has the bug been reported?

Windows 10 user chiming in. I use a lot of tabs of Google docs and this issue is still present in the recent 3.2 release. For now, I have to continue using Microsoft Edge.
