Text input loosing focus after switching tabs (Google Docs)
-
Here's a workaround for anyone affected by this (me included!). If you shift+tab twice once in the affected tab (not ctrl+shift+tab!) the cursor comes to life. Not ideal but it works.
-
@moulds thanks, yes I'd noticed that just recently also - switching twice fixes it reliably. Agree also - not ideal! I just filed a bug report: VB-46251.

Im typing something into google document (or google slides). Then i want to go to some other tab and return to the tab with the document. Then the problem starts - cursor appears in a place where it was, but it's not blinking - therefore i can't type anything, until I use the left mouse or tab and shift tab. It's a problem when i want to quickly type something, go to some other site, copy it and paste into the document or just check smth and return - i have to use the mouse, when i prefer to just stick to keyboard while working seriously.
The problem doesn't appear when i alt+tab and return by alt+tab, also it doesn't appear on gmail, and on other browser everything is ok.
Also: document tab -> some other tab -> document tab (i can't type) -> some other tab -> document tab (i can type again). I've noticed the problem some time after the 2.0 update.
Other thing - i know something is not right with vivaldi paste without editing, but before 2.0 i was able to do it inside google docs because of the google docs default shortcut ctrl+shift+v, but it doesn't work anymore, no matter if vivaldi shortcut ctrl+shift+v is paste and enter the page or paste without editing or if that shortcut has no function assigned.

Latest developer version of Vivaldi, these bugs have been present for a while now.
I thought to post those here for information, I reported a bug as well on https://vivaldi.com/bugreport• While typing in Google Docs, I use crtl + tab to change tabs in order to look up information. But when using crtl + tab to switch back again, Google Docs is loosing focus, disabling typing. I have to click to make Google Docs active.
• Page tiling two Google Documents results in a page crash. For a couple of seconds, I am unable to type. Then Google Docs itself provides the message 'Unable to load file: Try to load it again or send an error report.' Clicking reload on their button solves the issue, still it is interrupting the workflow.

I have the exact problem. It's only on Google Docs.
Using version 2.6.1566.44 on Windows 10 -
Yes, I face the same problem too. Any workarounds or fixes found?
-
I am facing the same issue. Can anyone help?

OS Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (Build 7601.24494) -
Also happens for me.
MacOS 10.14.6
Vivaldi version: 2.7.1628.33 (Stable channel) (64-bit)
Revision 3bef5abd3cc7273c4ab9932c541c37ca668f9cc0To reproduce:
Open two google docs.
Type in one,
CTRL-TAB to the next doc,
Try to type without clicking the mouse. -
As the title suggests, is it possible?
For example: Google Docs.
Is there a way for it to focus on Google Docs instead of the tabs when switching from another tab? Because, for example, if I try to switch from a random tab to Google Docs and trying to continue from where I stopped writing, it won't continue—it'll just do nothing unless I click on the actual document, not unlike other browsers. -
@hikariakito Welcome to the forums.
Yes - it does happen from time to time. Usually pressing ESC will place focus back on the page, as a quick workaround instead of clicking in the doc.Feel free to report it here, as it appears to not happen in other browsers so it's probably a bug:
https://vivaldi.com/bugreport/Oh and by the way - not unlike in this context means "similar"
-
@Pathduck Oh alright, thanks!

This is happening for me too, on Linux.

Hi! I have the same issue on Windows10, Vivaldi 2.9.1705, and in MacOS Catalina, with the latest Vivaldi release. It happens even just by mouse-clicking into another tab and doing any input in it.
-
I am facing the same issue with regards to losing input focus.
This is a huge productivity drain when working with Google Docs (which is what my company uses).
Every time I switch between tabs I have to click (with the mouse) into the Google doc to get back focus. Thus when copy/pasting text, or trying to continue writing in the doc I have to reach to the mouse. This is not an issue with Chrome or Edge (the newest one). Thus not a WebKit issue per se.
Here are my details:
Vivaldi 2.9.1705.41 (Stable channel) (64-bit)
Revision ce637bfd730e6b2e549bf8def38f849e1a26bd3b
OS Windows 10 OS Version 1909 (Build 18363.657)
JavaScript V8 7.8.279.23
Flash (Disabled)
User Agent Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/78.0.3904.99 Safari/537.36 Vivaldi/2.9.1705.41 -
@Gwen-Dragon : Please check again with the newest version. This issue is easy to replicate on my machine. 100% of the time.
-
I can also reproduce this 100 % of the time. If I Ctrl+Tab to a different tab and back to Docs I can't write unless I click in the document. If I Ctrl+Tab to a different tab and back to Docs (so that I can't write as per the above) and then Ctrl+Tab to a different tab and back to Docs again (without clicking in Docs the first time), I can now suddenly write in Docs without having to click first.
Vivaldi: Snapshot 2.12.1838.3 64-bit
OS: Windows 10 1909
It also happens on my Linux laptop, although I don't know which Vivaldi version is running there (PostgreSQL bricked the laptop last week so I can't check at the moment).

This problem persists. Excitedly I have completely switched over to Vivaldi. Love this browser. But as I got down to work in Google Docs I discovered that I had a big problem. As switch back and forth from different tabs, when I switch back to my Google doc tabs, the cursor is usually not active (blinking). I'm used to the cursor being active when I switch to a Google doc tab (like in Chrome), so I I just start typing or pasting and this results in information going into the address bar. Every now and then the cursor is blinking when I click on Google doc tab and I can just start typing like usual (like Chrome), but MOST of the time the cursor is frozen and anything typed goes into the address bar. I believe this is the same problem as described above or very similar.
Does anyone know if there's an update. Will it be fixed soon? I do a lot of work in Google Docs so this is kinda driving me crazy.
3.0.1874.38 (Stable channel) (64-bit)

@Mieszkopin I am having this same problem with Google Docs tabs. I'm often editing 2 or 3 Google Docs at once and will tab back and forth between them. Most of the time when I switch to the tab of a Google Doc the cursor is a solid black line. If I start typing nothing shows up in the document. I have to use the mouse to click on the solid cursor. It then starts blinking and I can type. Every now and then when I switch to a Google Doc tab the cursor is blinking and I can type, but MOST of the time I can't.
I'm using Vivaldi 3.0.1874.38 (Stable channel) (64-bit) on Arch Linux.
