Solved Broken tabs bar on the left when resizing

How do I close this thread?

@jim0000 Don't give up yet. Maybe a screen recording can better explain it.
You just need to change the tabs to the right side view and increase the width by dragging the left edge before switching back to left side tabs.
Or you can wait until the fix makes it to the stable version of Vivaldi.

Thanks for going to the trouble of providing a little video to describe the process. I did do that after the earlier post from ggirl, and it appeared to work..........for a short while. Then it quick reverted to the problematic condition.
However, I just went over to my Vivaldi browser and tried it again. It is now working and I will boot it up in the morning to see if it stays functional.
Thanks again; you have restored my hope to get it working and also alleviated my frustrations with forum communications. I hate it when I find that I have offended someone inadvertently; it leaves me with an unpleasant feeling.
I have found that starting out on a new forum, there always seems to be communication problems. After some time, a kind of a master/apprentice relationship establishes, and then all is ok.
I am happy to be the perennial apprentice.I will check in tomorrow to report if it is still working or not.
If it is not, I will abandon it and go back to FireFox as I already have a life!Jim

Please be aware, as i told you, & as @nomadic separately told you... this is a BUG in your version of Vivaldi Stable. It is not intended behaviour. LOTS of users have been bitten by it [it is a nasty one]. Until you receive the next update of your Vivaldi Stable version, you are at risk of this bug frequently recurring. It's not your fault, it is that specific version's fault. I'm emphasing this to you here so you won't be shocked if you later find that it bites you again.
That's also why i earlier advised you that another option available to you is to change [temporarily, maybe?] to the current Snapshot version, in which it is already fixed.

After updating to the latest stable release (5.2.2623.41 (Stable channel) stable (64-bit)), my tabs have been hidden, but only if I place them on the left side of the screen. The tabs are perfectly visible when tab position is top, right or bottom. "Show tab bar" is set to true. The problem persists when resizing window, after disabling all extensions and deleting cache.
The following screenshots are of the top left of my Vivaldi window, in different situations.
Fig 1: browsing the Vivaldi forums in a normal window
Fig 2: sitting on the speed dial in a normal window
Fig 3: browsing the Vivaldi forums in a private window
Fig 4: sitting on the speed dial in a private window
When I switch between the "left" setting and the other settings, I can see the web page jitter by a pixel or two.
The last observation I have is that I can hover over the tabs to see a preview in all these cases, but in the normal window, I need to bring the cursor to the very edge of the screen to show the previews. The tabs are also clickable when my mouse is at this position.
I suspect this issue is caused by Vivaldi not reserving enough space on the left side for a tab bar.

@frofftheloff This bug is fixed in the current snapshot and should hopefully make its way to stable soon.
You can see more discussion in this thread: Left Aligned Tab Bar clipped by webpage
You can fix it by setting the tabs to
Right
and then dragging to increase the width of the bar before switching back toLeft

Oh. My. Goodness.
Sigh.

While adjusting the width of vertical tabs positioned on the left, they've now become invisible and the size handle no longer appears, so I can't drag them out to make them wider. Opening a new Speed Dial tab shows them but the dial header overlaps the tabs, they can't be clicked on and they still can't be resized. Sometimes I even get two columns of tabs, neither of which are active, like the screenshot below.
Whatever has happened, the vertical tabs are no longer usable.

@knightlie Works for me with 5.3.2679.36 Win 11.
Which version do you use? That was fixed in Snapshot 5.2.2621.3.
-
@DoctorG I'm on 5.2. Vivaldi won't detect 5.3 when I check so I don't know if that fixes the issue.

- Backup your browser profile data (see profile path in vivaldi://about)
- Download installer from https://vivaldi.com/download/
- install the current 5.3.
-
Yeah, 5.3 has fixed the issue, thanks @DoctorG
