I've used Vivaldi for years. Never had to sign in or anything like that.

My computer died and today I started setting up a new one. I downloaded Chrome, signed into my microsoft account and immediately had access to all my bookmarks, apps, etc., just like on the old computer.

I downloaded Vivaldi and it has none of my settings, bookmarks or anything else as they were; in short it doesn't recognize me.

There is evidently a sign in page in Vivaldi (Never used it before, except maybe the first time I installed Vivaldi years ago). I found a username and password for a Vivaldi account written down in a notebook I keep for such things. The name is my name @vivaldi.net which looks like an e-mail address though its one I never used and have no idea how to access. I tired the name with and without the @vivaldi.net ending and the password, but Vivialdi rejected it. It did not offer to let me reset the password or anything either (I know what gmail account I would have reported to Vivaldi as my backup).

Can anyone help me get my Vivaldi book marks and pages back?

If you didn't had sync activated, you can't recover your stuff unfortunately.
On the other hand, unless it's your hard drive whats got broken, you should try to recover your "default" folder where all your bookmarks, passwords, etc. are stored. Just copy it in your new PC.

@helenaconstantine Hi - the password for your Vivaldi account is the same as the password you use to sign in to this forum.

You can view you Vivaldi account information as well as change your password here:
          https://login.vivaldi.net/profile/editUser?username=helenaconstantine

Like the other browsers, Vivaldi also has a Sync feature:
          https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/tools/sync/

          However, you did say:
"Never had to sign in or anything like that."
Problem is, if you've never signed in to Vivaldi sync then most likely it's not kept any record of your data. It can't sync your data if you haven't used it before.

When signing in to Vivaldi Sync, use your username i.e. helenaconstantine and your vivaldi.net password (again, same as this forum).

When you sign up for a Vivaldi.net account, you also get an email <username>@vivaldi.net - but of course it's completely up to you if you want to use it.

@pathduck thanks. That's probably it. i.e. there is no record of my data.

@helenaconstantine That's too bad, but sign in to the Sync in any case, and at least it will start syncing your data from now on ๐Ÿ‘

And you can import the data from the other browsers as well.

In case you're going to use Sync for backup only on one device, make sure you pick an encryption password that you can remember and download the backup encryption key.
Sync is first and foremost a feature to synchronise data across multiple devices not a backup feature. Though, in most cases it does work as one, as long as you can remember the encryption password or have a valid backup key.
