Can't uninstall Capital One Shopping extension
-
I installed the capital one shopping extension in Vivaldi. I never got the button on the toolbar that I was supposed to get but occasionally their popup window would show up.
I decided I wanted to get rid of it. I can't as it doesn't show up in the list of extensions. As a sanity check I checked my other browsers list of extensions and windows list of installed apps.
I contacted their support and they were worthless, just said they didn't support Vivaldi. I looked in the profile directory to see if the extension was stored there but hidden, it just had the three extensions that are listed.

How do I get rid of the extension? You're supposed to "Right-click the Capital One Shopping button located at the top-right corner of your Chrome browser window.", "select “Manage Extensions" and then select "Remove extension". However the button was never visible and the extension is not listed, even using vivaldi://extensions .
I'm using 5.2.2623.39 (Stable channel) (64-bit) under Windows 11 Pro.

@emoore If you're not using the internal mail client, you can refresh your profile to get rid of it. I would say to delete the relevant files and/or folders but, as there don't seem to be any, I'm not sure how to get rid of the infection other than to jettison the infected profile.

@ayespy
Thanks for the reply.I was hoping to find out it was for some unknown reason treated as a system add-on (like Firefox has) and if I knew the file location I could delete it. But I took your advice and replaced the profile. Too early to tell for sure that fixed the problem, but so far its looking good.

@emoore Well, if you kept the old Default folder somewhere that you could stick it back into the User Data folder (rename your new profile and DON'T move it - just rename it to "Defaulted" or something, then put the old Default folder back and restart the browser - then if no joy, you can still rename the new folder back again and not lose your work), it just this second occurred to me that even though the shopping extension install was not successful, the downloaded .APK could still have installed a serviceworker that was working in the background. Unregistering that serviceworker (if indeed it was there) could also have solved your problem. Maybe? There is an internal page where you can do this, at vivaldi://serviceworker-internals You can unregister any serviceworker on that page with the press of a button.
Mind you, it's only a guess. But if another user comes up with a similar problem, I will try to remember this possibility.
