Solved Run apps in the background when Vivaldi is closed
-
Hi,
what exactly is the setting "Run apps in the background when Vivaldi is closed", found in chrome://settings/system for?
I think that I do not use any apps, so is it save to disable this setting? But looking at vivaldi://apps, it shows Vivaldi and Chrome Web Store. I do not want them to run when Vivaldi is closed.
When Vivaldi is closed, I cant see them in task manager, but the setting is on.So I think I am missing some basic thing here, please explain.

@bariton As far as I know, this setting only applies to "Apps" i.e. sites installed as apps (PWA). Some of these have code that will allow a process to remain in memory when the browser is closed. Some kind of Chromium nastiness - websites are apps" and all that crap. Not even sure it actually works as "intended" in Vivaldi (which is good!)
I also think that maybe for certain extensions, they will install a service worker process that will continue running even when the browser is closed, for serving notifications (and often spam). I always turn that setting off

Yes. You can disable this.

Nice, thank you.

Good to know that turning that off is no problem.
A browser is a browser, no funny hidden side steps please.
Thank you. -
I always disable this Chrome setting. A bit annoying that you have to search for it inside chromium and not Vivaldi settings.

Yeah, I changed my first post for future readers to see the real URL.
Its funny that the URL changes to vivaldi:// - that's a bit confusing as calling vivaldi://settings/system from a fresh tab shows something completely different.
Well, as long as we describe these circumstances here, I hope new users will be able to work with it. -

Unfortunately normal users will never find internal chromium settings...
And they shouldn't. -
