Yahoo Mail is not supported on your browser
-
Yahoo mail is giving me the "Yahoo Mail is not supported on your browser" message.
The User-Agent Switcher for Chrome does not help.
Crazy.
Do we have a fix? Thanks in advance!

@wombatpete
Hi, no problems here:Which version are you using, some user report issues with unsupported for Vivaldi 5.1, was Chromium 98, Vivaldi 5.2 is Chromium 100 now.
Cheers, mib
-
Vivaldi 5.2.2623.26 (Stable channel) (64 бита)
Worked fine for ages. Suddenly, today - bam.
That error messages does allow you to access the "classic" version of yahoo mail - which has no rtf functionality (no bold, etc.). And other limitations. I'm not sure, but that may be what you're showing me... -
@wombatpete
I don´t use web mail clients usually, was a short test.
I will check for the new mail setup on Yahoo and come back to you.Mib
EDIT: No idea where to set this: -
@wombatpete Hi - what user agent did you try switching to with the extension?
What does your current UA say? Test it here:
https://www.whatismybrowser.com/detect/what-is-my-user-agent/Any specific page on Yahoo Mail it gives the error?
Does it give the error on a page where login is not required? I.e. login page itself for instance? Or do you have to login for the error to show?Try a forced refresh of the page using
Ctrl+F5
.
Try clearing site data (padlock icon > Site Settings > Clear site data) - this will log you out as well.Please try the troubleshooting steps as well, including testing in a clean profile:

I tried every form of refreshing.
I believe it came up after I logged in, when it was supposed to display the mailbox. Hard to reproduce because I can't find any way to UNselect the "classic" mailbox and start again. Working on that... -

No wonder it says it then, Chrome 96 is "really old"*. My guess it's your UA switcher extension that's misconfigured.
Disable it, what does the UA string say then? If working correctly, Vivaldi should give a UA of:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/100.0.4896.81 Safari/537.36
* Nov '21 - For the way some sites treat browser versions because of "security issues" that's positively ancient...
-
Okay, already progress - we have a reason why this would be happening.
It's the straightforward User-Agent Switcher for Chrome for chrome - searched for it, downloaded it, installed it.
Now I went in and deactivated it - but the site you sent me to says the same thing.
Tried Cntl-F5. Tried shutting down and restarting Vivaldi. No change.
Checked for Vivaldi updates - latest version. -

Hang on... what's this? What extension did you install and do you have any other extensions?
From a quick web search that's the Yandex browser...
-
@pathduck
Hmmm...
The extension is entitled: User-Agent Switcher for Chrome
1.1.0
Is that enough information?
Yandex... I should say I am in St. Petersburg, using Windscribe both on the computer and in the browser. Not sure whether that explains the presence of Yandex. -

Nope - YaBrowser and Yowser is not in the standard UA of Vivaldi.
Are you sure Windscribe is the only other extension installed?
- Open Menu > Tools > Extensions
- Open URL
vivaldi://system
, expand the extensions section and paste the list here in a code block.
Starting to suspect you've got some kind of malware, or possibly some kind of anti-virus/security/VPN/proxy/privacy thing running on your machine that intercepts web requests and sends the wrong user agent, but I guess it's probably something easy to explain.
Then again, it should then affect all browsers, not just Vivaldi... Have you tested in other browsers?
-
Open the UA testing site in a Private or Guest window as already suggested and check the result again.
-
Do the same in a clean profile as well - https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/tools/user-profiles/
Ignore Yahoo for now, what's important is figuring out what's causing that "scary" UA.

https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/troubleshoot/troubleshooting-issues/Edit: Lemme guess - Windscribe with the Split Personality option enabled?
-
@WombatPete Not Vvialdi brwoser's fault!.
Faking User-Agent string without knowing if such is useful, will result in such errors.
I fear you need to learn more about your installed and used extensions. -
Ppafflick moved this topic from Vivaldi for Windows on
-
Does it help if I say that I've turned Windscribe off, both in the browser and the standalone program, and it didn't make the non-classic Yahoo mail accessible?
Also didn't change the useragent result.
"Lemme guess - Windscribe with the Split Personality option enabled?"
...THAT WAS IT! Pathduck the genius. Why does it have that effect? -
@wombatpete said in Yahoo Mail is not supported on your browser:
Why does it have that effect?
Because it randomises the user-agent string. Not a good idea when a lot of sites are not allowing old versions to use them, and some even break in strange ways. Unless someone is super-paranoid I suggest keeping that setting off.
