After starting Vivaldi in incognito mode, trying to open a regular window fails.

Has anyone else experienced the issue with Vivaldi on Linux (Fedora 35-36) where if you open an Private window before any others, when trying to open a normal window (while the Private is still running) results in Vivaldi's splash screen showing and never loading the browser?
I've had this pretty consistently for the last 3 months (noticed, could be older issue) and I'm fairly sure its a bug but before raising I just wanted to check if anyone else has had a similar experience?
Steps to Reproduce
- Close all Vivaldi windows and ensure there are no Vivaldi processes continuing to run.
- Open a new Vivaldi Private Window (e.g. right click icon and select "New Private Window"
- Open a new Vivaldi (non-private) Window
Expected Result
The window opens displaying the splash (Vivaldi logo on grey background in my case) and is shortly replaced by the full browser UI, e.g. the chrome and the last tabs or start page is displayed, navbar and tab bar shows.
Actual Result
The window opens displaying the splash (Vivaldi logo on grey background in my case), which is the same as the one which is always displayed, then nothing happens no matter how long you wait.
Note: If I close all the windows and load the non-private window first, there are no issues.

@cubanp3te No idea about Stable, (nor Fedora ofc), but on Snapshot I can not reproduce it, everything is loading fine

¡Hello, @zeroxmxi!
Welcome to the Vivaldi community, we love meeting new people who use the browser.
I tried to reproduce the error and it was not possible, both tabs (private and normal) open without problems.
Do you think you can include screenshots - or if possible, a video of it?

That is a known issue in 5.2.2623.48
Does not happen for me in 5.3.2679.13. -
Good day folks,
I am a newbie with this platform, but I wanted to advise, I too are having the same issues as @zeroxmxi.
Please take a look at the images:
@DoctorG, I don't have any updates available. Before I made this post, I did a check but resulted in Up To Date. May I ask, where did you get the newer version 5.3.2679.13?
@zeroxmxi said in Unable to start normal browser session if private browser session starts first:
This is the version that this issue occurred.
Steps to reproduce:
- Start a private window
- Then start a normal browser session
- Normal browser session window was opened but pitch blank
The following works:
- Starting a normal browser session first
- Then start a private window

@zeroxmxi
my previous thread about it: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/74017/after-starting-vivaldi-in-incognito-mode-trying-to-open-a-regular-window-fails?lang=en-US&page=1this issue is at least 6 weeks old. they have a fix in the snapshot, but not the stable version.
you can either download the latest snapshot or wait until the next version (not small update).
based on the other thread, it seems it is almost time for a new version, but it'll happen when it happens.

Hi. I'm consistently experiencing a freeze when I open a "normal" window while having a private window open.
I'm on Windows 10 64-bit and Vivaldi 5.2.2623.48.
These are the steps.
-
Close Vivaldi completely.
-
Open a private window from command line with "start vivaldi --incognito".
-
Try to open a regular Vivaldi window.
Result: the new regular window will be just a grey rectangle with the Vivaldi logo, with no way to close it. The private window can be closed, but even after closing it, the grey rectangle will be stuck there. I'll have to go to Task Manager to kill all instances of Vivaldi.
However, if instead of step 0 above I already have a non-private Vivaldi open and then open a private window (either from the normal one with Ctrl+Shift+N or from command line), everything will be ok.
Anybody able to reproduce this?

@LuisAcuna
Hi, there was a bug in one of the 5.2 version of Vivaldi but it is fixed in Vivaldi 5.3.
There are some issues in this version therefor the auto update is disabled at moment. You can download it and install as a standalone install to test or wait a few days.
Check the block/forum for news about the new 5.3 status.https://vivaldi.com/blog/desktop/
Cheers, mib
