Solved New tab extension blocks history, bookmarks, notes and calendar pages

@zuluvol Do you happen to use a new tab page extension? There is a known issue in that case,
VB-85041
.See this thread for a workaround until it is fixed:
https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/69327/can-t-open-some-internal-pages-with-extensions-controlling-new-tabs/ -
cheers nomadic. had to play around a bit...
for my new tab it played out this way:
chrome-extension://cojpndognjdcakkimaloeealehpkljna/index.html
Works great now. Many thanks for your time! -
That's the most possible scenario
Unfortunately we are forced to clean/create new profile I suppose -
@thebestpessimist @kryllyn
More information what you can copy over from your old profile.
Make sure you make a copy of you default profile to a save place.
If you use sync it is much easier, if it work better today.https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/10388/refreshing-or-cleaning-your-profile

@mib2berlin thank you very much, that's very helpful

So, I tried this. And Speed Dial 2 ยป this extension is causing the problem. Don't know why though. Even fresh profile didn't work after adding this extension for new.
The most difficult problem is that for different people it's different thing. For some, even no extension at all cause this 'history tab' problem...Any advice that I could test and see if it changes anything?

Hi Vivaldi Users,
Whenever I use the shortcut Ctrl + H and try and see my history I am prompted with a black screen. I am using the latest version of Vivaldi and still no fix. Does anyone have a workaround for this problem?
Attached is a screenshot of what I see when I try and see my history.
Thanks in Advance!

@gcisn Hello and Welcome to the Vivaldi Community
Are you using custom new tab extensions and have enabled "controlled by extension" under Settings > Tabs? If it's a known bug in Vivaldi with using these kinds of extensions, and the team is working to fix it (at least I hope so..)
-
@Pathduck Yeah I'm using a custom new tab extension... I think my best bet is to wait on the team to come up with a fix. If I untick the "Controlled by extension", history comes back, yet my new tab extension disappears. For your reference, the Extension is called Papaly Bookmark Manager.
Thanks for your help!

@gcisn Here's a possible workaround until they fix it:
Under New Tab Page set a custom URL of:
chrome-extension://pdcohkhhjbifkmpakaiopnllnddofbbn/newpage.html
You'll have to set in Settings > General as well if you want it to load as Homepage and on startup.
It seems to work here, but no idea if it won't break something in the extension. Also this will have to be changed if you want to use another similar extension, and it's not so easy to find the correct URL.

This seems to be working for me-- including history . I am just curious, where did you get the link for the Papaly extension or where would I find it for other new tab extensions

Easiest is probably to use the Devtools.
For some you can usually guess the relevant HMTL file from looking in your V profile extensions dir.
Default\Extensions\pdcohkhhjbifkmpakaiopnllnddofbbn\6.0.1_0

@kryllyn It's probably caused by this recent, unresolved (as for now) bug:
VB-85041 New tab extension blocks history, bookmarks, notes and calendar pages
. Our developers are aware of the issue and will try to find a solution as soon as possible. -
@pafflick I'm so happy i don't need to recreate my profile!
Thank you for telling us it's a known bug.
-
@pafflick Thank you for this information
-
Just so you know, if you're using Tabliss extension, this fixes it also. At least it fixed it for me!
Thank you! -
@pafflick said in Can't open some internal pages with extensions controlling new tabs:
There's no need to report it again - for any follow-up it's:
VB-85041 New tab extension blocks history, bookmarks, notes and calendar pages
(no progress yet).any update on this? (difficulty of solving or any other info)
it's so frustrating since i use a new tab extension a lot: i have to disable it every time if i want to manage bookmarks -
@urfausto What new tab page extension do you use? I can help you make the workaround URL.
