Solved New tab extension blocks history, bookmarks, notes and calendar pages
-
Hello,
I have read some posts with a similar problem but nothing did it for me.
My Vivaldi is suddenly not saving the history at all. Or it is but it’s not showing it.
When I go to vivaldi://history/ I get a blank page. Absolutely nothing.
When I click on the trash bin in the right corner it shows me the last pages I visited, bun only a few.
I don’t have any “cleaning” Software running (just Defender), I have no extensions that could cause that. Just can’t find the reason. Anyone a Idea?Vivaldi 5.0.2497.38 (Stable channel) (64-Bit)
Windows 10 Version 21H2 (Build 19044.1466)Thanks

@lordrayden Hi, have you set Vivaldi "Save Browser History" to Session Only? Settings > Privacy?
I think there's a bug in 5.0 where Session Only setting will not save History even for the session. It should clear on browser close but still should save history during the session.
-
@lordrayden Try a reinstall.
Try for a test a second profile (without any settings and extensions), perhaps in your regular profile a extension cause the issue. -
Several updates and no fix? What's the problem?
-
@lordrayden Do you use Speed Dial 2 extension?
-
@tsunamiz Related to some of your installed extensions for Speed Dial?
-
Yes, it happens when I have my new tab page set to be controlled by extension.
-
@tsunamiz Report at https://github.com/bluecaret/carettab/issues to let extension developer check this.
-
vivaldi has already been having bugs with the "controlled by extension" setting. here is another related bug that you previously confirmed but is still not fixed...
-
Is there any reaction?
-
@midoni Reaction from whom? The extension author? Or Vivaldi devs? Had you reported a bug to Vivaldi tracker?
-
There's no need to report it again - for any follow-up it's:
VB-85041 New tab extension blocks history, bookmarks, notes and calendar pages
(no progress yet). -
updated first post to include all the bugs related to the "controlled by extension" setting.

I have a very similar problem! My history isn't gone (thankfully), but when I pull up the history window (either from the menu or with the CTRL+H shortcut) nothing happens, I just get a blank window with my background picture. I used to get a nice view with a graph of my usage and breakdown of web site visits. Where did it go? Is this a bug or was this feature removed?
-
It is the same for me. I turned off the Speed Dial 2 extension and the history page is back up visible. Dunno if it is because of the extension itself or just Vivaldi, or both - but I see that some people have the same problem without the same extension as I'm using. Any further advice what can I do if I know what causing the problem?
-
I dont use speed dial 2, however i cannot see history (ctrl H) or bookmarks (ctrl B )
-
@thebestpessimist and with new profile and/or without extensions the problem occur?
-
With a new profile it works.
With my 2 existing profiles it does not.one existing profile (work profile) has no extensions whatsoever, so i'm excluding extensions as the source of the issue. Maybe during a Vivaldi update something got corrupted in my profile? (that's sad
)

Ctrl+B (tools \ bookmarks) brings up a blank black page.
Same for history, notes, mail, calendar. Extensions correctly opens the extensions page.
New issue. I've never had the problem prior. Can't figure. -
@zuluvol Do you happen to use a new tab page extension? There is a known issue in that case,
VB-85041
.See this thread for a workaround until it is fixed:
