Extensions requiring authentication not working?
-
An extension that I've been using for a while for twitch.tv (Twitch Live) has recently stopped working since Twitch now requires authentication in order to access their API.
The extension I was using was updated to add a login function, in Chrome clicking this login button opens a "Identity API Scope Approval UI" Chrome app window but with Vivaldi clicking the button does nothing and so it's unusable (applies to both Windows and macOS versions)
For extensions that have this kind of authentication requirement is there anything I can do to get them working with Vivaldi? is it a bug? a known limitation?
Thanks

@nerv12 Hello and Welcome to the Vivaldi Community
Fixing issues related to extensions is not high on the Vivaldi team's priority list, understandably. Especially if they use very Chrome/Google-specific stuff and only test their code in Chrome.
There seems to be several extensions named something like "Twitch Live" available so hard to test this. Which one is it?
I recommend you contact the extension developer and ask them to make sure their extension works in Vivaldi.

I've also had this problem with Twitch Live (this one: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/twitch-live/iiljidcefnbhbpamageahhblhbbhhopm). After trying some things I managed to get it to authenticate with Twitch (the connection is listed on my Twitch profile), but the redirect back to the extension settings doesn't work and thus the extension doesn't seem to realise that it has been connected.
I haven't contacted the dev but maybe I should...

Yes that's the same extension I was using: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/twitch-live/iiljidcefnbhbpamageahhblhbbhhopm
It's understandable that this sort of thing wouldn't be high on the priority list but I found the exact same issue with other extensions that I tried which made me think the problem may be more widespread, for example: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/twitch-tracker/mfgohimanapiecmcjniokgkendodflfg
A lot of the other Twitch extensions are just broken at the moment because they haven't been updated since Twitch made the changes to the API on their end, that's not a Vivaldi problem, it's just that the extensions I found that have been updated don't work with Vivaldi

Well, I sent and email to the Twitch Live dev. Let's wait and see what he replies.

I haven't heard back from the dev. However, after updating Vivaldi to the latest snapshot I tried authenticating Twitch Live again and this time it worked perfectly fine.

Hey folks!
I'm using the Twitch Live extension. It needs to authenticate with Twitch.tv
The authentication opens up in a popup window that's immediately and automatically closed in Vivaldi. It works fine in Chrome.
Disabling the popup blocker or ad blocker doesn't help this.Any idea how I could get the authentication popup to get through?
Thanks!

I had problems with this pop-up as well (but not that it closed itself, see this thread: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/73231/extensions-requiring-authentication-not-working). I can use it fine again since the latestVivaldi snapshot version.

I submitted the same question.. Didn't find this post initially. Whops!
On today's latest version 5.1.2567.73, I'm still not able to authenticate Twitch Live extension.
When clicking the "Authenticate With Twitch" button, it just reloads the page without opening anything. In regular Chrome, clicking that button opens a popup that authenticates with Twitch.
Not sure how to troubleshoot. Network recorder in DevTools doesn't show anything blocked or not opening. I tried disabling Ad blocker for the extension page and for Twitch itself, and that didn't help. The Twitch Live dev was gracious enough to respond to me, so I'll send him to this thread.
Anyone else have any ideas how to approach this?

@komposten said in Twitch Live Extension Authentication Popup:
latestVivaldi
Thanks! I missed that thread somehow. Still not working for me on latest release.
Will continue on the other thread. -
@arkadyf Komposten reported that the authentication is working in the latest snapshot and I've also tried and verified this myself
Based on the recent blog posts it sounds like a 5.2 stable release is coming soon but as of right now it seems like only way to get this working is by using the 5.2 snapshot releases

Thanks Nev!
I tried the latest dev release today (5.2.2623.12), and the extension is working as expected now. Great!
